VIDEO: The Nightwatchman | “Whatever It Takes”

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

TOM MORELLO aka, The Nightwatchman just released his second album, The Fabled City. Though he’s still signing about the common man, this album turns up the rock a but and isn’t as straight forward folk as Morello’s previous album.

For the video to the track, “Whatever It Takes” Morello takes a guerilla approach and goes busking on the streets of LA, showing the multi-cultural aspects of the city. (more…)

Eagles Of Death Metal Debut A New Song And Video From Forthcoming Album

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

There’s not much wrong EAGLES OF DEATH METAL can do if you think about it. Who DOESN’T enjoy good rock music whose sole intention is to make people boogie down and dance? If you were to ask the band’s frontman Jesse Hughes, he’d probably say something like “the only thing better is music that makes just the women boogie down and dance” but that’s pure speculation.

The band’s 3rd studio album Heart On is about the band’s “love affair with L.A.,” according to Hughes. He, along with the band’s drummer Josh Homme, are about to unleash the album on us this month and we’re happy to see the duo back together, even if just for a short while - though he helps write songs, Homme doesn’t often play live with the band since his other band, Queens Of The Stone Age takes up a chunk of his time. Just Last Night We Realized That Val Emmich Is Everywhere

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Jersey’s own VAL EMMICH is no stranger to his state’s music scene, but now it seems like he’s begun to expand his awareness to a national level. For those that don’t know him, we highly recommend you visit his past catalog, most notably, Slow Down Kid and The Fifteen Minute RelationshipEP to catch up on the work he’s done since the early 00s.

While trying to live his rock dreams Val has often acted as a way to supplement his musical ambitions, picking up acting jobs and commercial work to pay the bills. Last year he scored a guest role on the show Cashmeire Mafia and helped Tina Fey find some “Cougar Love” on her show 30 Rock.

Though possessing a growing acting career, Emmich has never lost sight of the fact that he’s a musician at heart. So it seems his latest acting role is a good marriage of both of his interests. Val debuted on the TV show Ugly Betty last week as Jesse, a musician neighbor/love interest for Betty, the show’s main character. He also got to flex some of his musical muscle by performing a cover of Tom Petty’s “American Girl” in the final scene of the show’s season premiere. (more…)

VIDEO: Jack White & Alicia Keys | “Another Way To Die”

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Most of our office has been pretty psyched about the next installment of the James Bond movie franchise. We only need to wait a few weeks until we get all Quantum Of Solace’d up in here(?) Rather than ask what that title actually means we figured we’d wait until we heard the new theme song (which usually has the song title in it) for clarification…we got none. However, it seems that Jack White and Alicia Keys themselves didn’t want to even tackle the idea so they just called it “Another Way To Die.”

C’mon Jack! I think if these people can figure out how to use the movie’s title in a song, you could have as well. (more…)

Jimmy Eat World Perform On Yo Gabba Gabba!, Create Probably Their Best Video Ever

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

This site has sung the praises of the Nick Jr. tv show Yo! Gabba! Gabba! before. Mainly because the kids show has an edge to it that isn’t often found with all children’s television. One of the best examples of this are the bands that have done guest appearances on the show (Shiny Toy Guns and The Shins to name a few).

Well we can now add Jimmy Eat World to that list. The band performs an original track “Beautiful Day” for the show. And with it, they shot one of the best videos ever! (more…)

VIDEO: Rise Against | “Re-Education (Through Labor)”

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

The latest RISE AGAINST video strikes a very similar resemblance to their previous video for “We Give It All.” With the youth of America striking out against the man. But as the band stated in a recent behind the scenes video, the intent of this video is meant to have a bit more of a bite to it.

The band’s new album Appeal To Reason will hit stores on October 7th. Get ready! (more…)

VIDEO: Against Me! | “Borne On The FM Waves Of The Heart”

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

It seems AGAINST ME! are on a mission to make a video for every song on their most recent album, New Wave. With such a solid album chock full of great tunes, it’s not terribly hard to see why that’s an alluring option. The latest is for “Borne On The FM Waves Of The Heart,” aka the ballad/duet on the record. It’s a strong song that could work on making fans of mellower music AM! fans.

Tegan Quinn (Tegan And Sarah) handles the female vocal duties on the track and is featured in the video. AM! frontman Tom Gable met Quinn a few years back, during a mutual admiration discussion Quinn stated that she’d love to record something with AM! if the opportunity every presented itself. Gabel then wrote “Borne…” with Quinn in mind for the female lead. The result was a song about a couple trying to decide if it’s better to remain together or break up, and definitely a new love song for all the young punks out there. (more…)

Passion Pit | Boston University, MA | 9.20.2008

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Saturday night I had the opportunity to sit backstage and watch an excellent electro/dance/rock/pop set by my friends in PASSION PIT. Passion Pit is a band with a lot going for them. As a relatively new band they have  opened for Death Cab for Cutie, performed with acts such as Girl Talk, Broken Social Scene, they already have West Coast dates scheduled with French pop sensation Yelle for this fall and tomorrow night they will grace New York City with their presence as they open for The French Kicks at Bowery Ballroom. The video you are about to see is from their performance with Girl Talk on Saturday, in front of 1,500 people at Boston University. The show was phenomenal, watch the videos and you will see. VIDEO: Q-Tip | “Gettin’ Up”

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

It seems the new Q-TIP album is actually coming out, after what seemed like countless delayed release dates. For a while we thought Mr Tip’s next record The Renaissance was going to go the way of his previous studio album, Kamaal The Abstract - that way being still on a record label shelf somewhere.

But checking out his new video “Gettin’ Up” proves we may be in for a renaissance with Q-Tip returning to form with the style of good time music that make him a success in the first place. The video is a total throwback to the Tribe Called Quest days (sans Phife unfortunately) as we get Tip jocking what he does best. (more…)

VIDEO: Cold War Kids | “Something Is Not Right With Me”

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

COLD WAR KIDS just debuted a video for their song, “Something Is Not Right With Me” from their forthcoming album, Loyalty To Loyalty. The song is a crazy jangly tune with a heaped up sense of urgency. And the video shows the boys doing the same all over a warehouse of sorts.

Perhaps the best paprt of the song is when vocalist Nathan Willett drops a completely great lyric on us.

I tried to call you collect / You said you would not accept / Your friends are laughing because nobody uses payphones!

An MP3 of this song is available for free download over at RCRD LBL and if you head over to the band’s Myspace page there are two remixes of the song available for download. Lots of things are definitely right with that. (more…)
