It’s going to be a pretty hectic fall for STEREOPHONICS. Over the next few months we will see The UK trio unleash a slew of new music upon us here in the states as well as their first US tour in nearly 3 years. So say there might be some saturation from Kelly Jones, Richard Jones, and Javier Weyler is an understatement.

First up will be their album, Pull The Pin which comes out on September 9th. Though the album has already be out overseas for the last year, it never got a proper release stateside (mostly in part because the band’s previous label, V2 closed its doors) and will be the band’s first album released here since 2005.

November 18th will mark the release of Decade In The Sun: The Best Of Stereophonics. The band’s greatest hits that will contain tracks from the band’s entire studio album catalog as well as 2 new tracks.

The band is also taking advantage of V2 closing to re-release their entire catalog on their own record label, Vox Populi. So before the end of the year you can get the entire 11-year history of Stereophonics. Not a bad way to go back to school.

Though vague as hell it’s always interesting hearing what they are up to. Here’s what they had to say about the new album.

Sonic Boner Fuel…
…would be a totally sweet band name, but in this case it represents what we here at camp MBD are planning on bringing to you fine people. We have some midwest rockin’ to do before we head down to Tennessee to make THE NEW RECORD MWA HA HA. Obviously we have to keep some secrets about the album from you, but here is what I can tell you:

-It has songs on it.
-Some of ‘em are pretty loud.
-Some of ‘em aren’t.
-It’s gonna be more awesome than tit-punching Paris Hilton and giving Pete Wentz a wedgie AT THE SAME TIME. No shit.

We’ll be bringing you updates from the studio once we get the ball rolling. In the meantime, please come out and let us make sexy time to your ear holes before, during, and after the recording process.

The tour takes them through mostly the midwest but the good news is they will be hitting the East Coast again at the end of the year. Mainly two nights at Starland Ballroom with Clutch and Priestess. We’re sure it will be an “ear hole rocking” good time. Dates after the jump.

On a night when sleet and hail made crossing Manhattan streets a ten-minute excursion, and hidden puddles lurked at every street corner, the Bowery Ballroom was more inviting than ever. However, it was the epic set by BLACKFIELD and the emotional atmosphere it created that made me completely forget about the weather outside.

With a stomach full of baked ziti, a beer in my hand and soggy sneakers on my feet,

I struggled to sustain consciousness as the opener Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater gently caressed the keyboard in front of him. It truly was very beautiful music but I was just not into it at the moment. As I looked around I noticed that the sea of progressive rock fans and piano aficionados certainly embraced it.

After a short break, Blackfield’s drummer sat down, alone on the stage, and began the bass drum-heavy intro to one of my favorites of the night, “Once”. This was my first time seeing Blackfield perform live and they certainly did not disappoint. Frontmen Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen create an amazingly harmonious duality out of their distinctive vocals and guitar styles. The dichotomy of their other individual projects alone, with Steven Wilson fronting prog-rockers Porcupine Tree, and Aviv Geffen a huge pop star in Israel, is enough to warrant checking out this band.

Halfway through the set I remember thinking to myself, “how the hell does this band sound so good live?” This is what professional musicians are supposed to sound like. Not one song failed to hold my attention. The highlights of the night for me were when the band played “Christenings”, a hauntingly beautiful song that has since stuck in my head, and a surprising cover of Alanis Morissette’s “Thank You”, which clearly resonated Wilson’s vocal abilities and immediately grabbed all the girls’ attention in the room. Steven Wilson and Aviv certainly have something here and if they’re not careful it may just surpass their other projects someday.

So who are Blackfield?

This certainly was not a question being asked by the sell-out crowd at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom Friday night, but rather Bowery’s promoter. It was the first time that his room had been sold-out by a band whose name he had never heard of before.

Well, now you know. Prepare to hear the name a lot more often.

Braving the weather, in the name of music.

Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen’s cross-cultural collaboration BLACKFIELD will play six dates in the U.S. this March, giving audiences a live experience of the 10 new tracks on their second album, Blackfield II, to be released March 6 on Atlantic / We Put Out Records. This is only their second time performing in the U.S., and the first time as a full 5-piece band.

Formed in 2001 as a one-off duo with the goal of producing a single EP, Blackfield grew into a 5-piece ensemble following the 2004 release of their self-titled debut album. Their sophisticated and melancholy compositions reflect both Wilson’s immense gift for melodies and Geffen’s meticulous songwriting ability, while the densely layered arrangements of acoustic and electric guitar, piano, keyboards, and strings paired with Wilson and Geffen’s yearning vocals recall the best work of bands from Coldplay to Muse to Zero 7.

Steven Wilson is best known as the leader of the band PORCUPINE TREE, whose new album Fear of a Blank Planet is set for release April 24 on Atlantic. Aviv Geffen is a highly successful solo artist and outspoken peace campaigner, with a string of gold albums in his home country of Israel.

Wednesday night Murder By Death rolled into town and played Maxwell’s before starting on the month long Sthress Tour with Thursday. Speaking of Thursday, their lead singer Geoff was at the show and made his way on stage to perform some guest vocals during “Killbot 2000″ (See the very dark photo above). As always MBD did not disapoint. They played a nice mix of all of their records, including “Intergalactic Menopause” which I haven’t heard them perform in quite a while.

Soon the band will be releasing their second video from the album In Bocca Al Lupo for the song “Sometimes The Line Walks You”. You can find a preview of the video here.

THURSDAY, MURDER BY DEATH, FEAR BEFORE THE MARCH OF FLAMES, and HEAVY HEAVY LOW LOW are set to hit the road in the new year for the innovative and interactive Strhess Tour.

Dec. 7, 2006 – New York, NY

After wrapping up their fall tour, in support of their new album, A CITY BY THE LIGHT DIVIDED, Island recording group Thursday heads back out on the road for the high-profile “Strhess Tour presented by Pure Volume.”The innovative tour, presented by artist Derek Hess’ clothing company, will incorporate interactive website contests, record companies, corporate sponsors (including Island), and total fan involvement throughout – will star Thursday as headliner, supported by the bands Murder By Death, Fear Before The March Of Flames, and Heavy Heavy Low Low. Dates will begin January 18th at Webster Theatre in Hartford, and wrap up at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA, on February 3rd (Please see complete tour itinerary below.) Thursday’s Geoff Rickly states, “We’ve always tried to make our tours as diverse and interesting as possible and now we’re incorporating visual artists and multimedia. We’ll be joined by our old friends in Murder By Death as well as two up and coming bands; Fear Before The March Of Flames and Heavy Heavy Low Low. If you can’t make it out to any of these shows check out PureVolume.com for all the fun you’re missing.”

STRHESS tour will give fans a chance to create their own art which will be incorporated into the tour itself, with the excitement of being able to film and bring cameras into the venue! Details on art submission will be announced on www.thursday.net, www.sthresstour.com and www.purevolume.com/tours/strhess. Thursday, along with the rest of the touring bands will choose the 20 entries which will be hosted on Stresstour.com. Fans will vote for their favorites and pick the winner. The Grand Prize will be announced on www.purevolume.com/tours/strhess, and have their original art incorporated into the tour!

have also recently announced the line up and date for their annual home town holiday show. This year they will be performing at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on December 27th. NJ’s very own Lifetime and New London Fire will join them along with From Autumn To Ashes. Pre-sale tickets with a discounted fee for all of these shows are availble through http://tixx1.artistarena.com/thursday/

New Jersey’s own Thursday – lead singer Geoff Rickly, guitarists Steve Pedulla and Tom Keeley, keyboardist Tim Payne, and drummer Tucker Rule – have built a loyal grassroots following on tour and over the Internet since the release of their album debut in 2000, Waiting (on the indie Eyeball imprint). Constant roadwork in support of their next album for Chicago’s Victory label (Full Collapse in 2001) brought Thursday to Island in 2002, and the Vans Warped Tour in 2003. War All the Time arrived in September 2003, peaking at #7 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, on the strength of its top 30 Modern Rock Track and video, “Signals Over the Air.” For further information go to www.thursday.net STRHESS TOUR FEATURING THURSDAY with Murder By Death – Fear Before The March Of Flames – Heavy Heavy Low Low
