THE ZUTONS released their latest studio album “You Can Do Anything” a few weeks back in the UK. And continuing in typical Zutons fashion, they are cranking out the music videos.

Their latest, for the song “What’s Your Problem” was just released and if you want to get into a slow motion fight, this vid shows you how. It also shows the awesomeness of watching water balloons explode in slo-mo.

The Zutons Have A New Album, Video

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

The new album from THE ZUTONS, You Can Do Anything will be released in the UK next week. Right now a few of us in the office are feeling a bit slighted since there’s no plans for a US release date yet and we need our fix of the ‘Tons. So hopefully there will be a US street date sooner than later.

The good news is we found this site where you can stream a snippets of every track off the album. Yes we know that snippets are not nearly as good as the full albums, it’s the equivalent of listening to edited hip-hop. You just can’t go down the street in a car, blasting the tunes at the proper volume with a bunch of edits. Oh well, I guess we’ll have to settle for something better than nothing.

Their video for “Always Right Behind You”, album art and tracklisting can be eyeballed after the jump. (more…)

The Zutons Are Writing A New Album

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

The ZutonsTHE ZUTONS have begun to write their third studio album and follow-up to 2006’s Tired Of Hanging Around.

The band is recording in Los Angeles with producer George Drakoulias (Primal Scream, Tom Petty, The Black Crowes). The still untitled album is due out this spring.

The group is also slated to play the Isle of Wight Festival this summer.

On making the new album, lead singer/guitarist Dave McCabe adds. “At first I was a bit scared at the thought of going to LA to make this album because we’ve never been away to record before. Since we’ve got here it’s been sound though, we’ve been buzzing off the Americans, it’s taken our heads to a different place and it’s brought us closer together. Sometimes you have to go a million miles away or get on a plane for ten hours to get closer together.

George (the producer) is funny as fuck, he’s like a walking jukebox and he’s getting a good vibe in the room. It definitely feels different with an American producer than what we’re used to and I think that’s a good thing for us now.”

The group has been enjoying a bit of notoriety as of late with producer Mark Ronson, along with Amy Winehouse taking a stab at covering their song “Valerie”. Then James Morrison went and did a cover of that version. Essentially covering a cover.

The MARK RONSON album Versions has been spending a lot of time in our playlist rotation as of late. It’s a cool, smart and hip take on some of our favorite tracks that have come out the past few years.

Some of the reinterpretations are cool and some are spectacular! One of those standout tracks on the album is the collaboration with one Amy Winehouse to do a version of The Zutons’ song “Valerie”. The video for that song has been released. Rather than featuring Wino herself (scheduling conflicts perhaps? rehab? no no no) Mark has 5 different ladies (dubbed “The Winettes” by Ronson at the end of the video) handle the the vocal duties. There’s a fun play on the missing singer in the video.

Monday, July 16th, 2007

The ZutonsIt’s being reported that THE ZUTONS have kicked their lead guitarist Boyan Chowdury out of the band.

The inital reports we due to “musical differences” but Gigwise is now reporting that their sources have said that it was due to a “general lazy attitude over the past months eventually came to a head recently, and he was told his laconic lead guitar services were no longer needed.”

Right now no replacement has been announced.

You can watch some video footage of the band’s recent performance on Live From Abbey Road. Chowdury was in the band at the time of the performance. So see if you can spot his general laziness in the video.
