MP3: Rise Against | “Re-Education Through Labor”

Monday, August 18th, 2008

RISE AGAINST are just a few weeks out from the release of their 5th studio album, Appeal To Reason. They recorded the album at The Blasting Room with producer/drummer/all around cool guy Bill Stevenson, who’s handled the knob-twisting role for the band in the past.

The band just posted a new track “Re-Education Through Labor” up on their Myspace page. It’s a first listen for most of the public, and hopefully a good indication of what we’re in for on October 7th. Upon first listen it’s pretty impressive to hear how much frontman Tim McIlrath’s voice has grown. Yes he’s always been able to belt out a good scream but it seems he’s grown into it and the vocals prompting them to be a bit higher in the mix on this song.

The band kicks off a big fall tour with one of the best lineups in a while, so great we’re dubbing it the “Tour Of Awesome” in the office. Check out the dates, album art and tracklisting after the jump. (more…)

The Gaslight Anthem | The Knitting Factory, NYC | 8.16.2008

Monday, August 18th, 2008

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM played an early set Saturday night at The Knitting Factory, celebrating the release of their new record, The ‘59 Sound. Polar Bear Club and We’re All Broken handled the opening duties but Gaslight were the stars of the night, playing for nearly 2 hours to a (very) sold out crowd of diehard fans. Lots of friends - who playfully joked with the band over the course of the night, peaking with a few rousing Bouncing Souls chants, “Ole” and “Here We Go”, before the encore (to honor the New Brunswick roots). There was even extended family on hand, lots because we overheard conversation about when the boys were young from some excited aunts. More pics after the jump. (more…)

VIDEO: The Gaslight Anthem | “The ‘59 Sound”

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Have a first look at it! THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM are brining their “‘59 Sound” among us. The new video is the first from the band’s forthcoming SideOneDummy release of the same name.

The video, directed by Kevin Custer, depicts a young boy finding a funeral where he see’s flashes of a man (his father? himself?) as he takes pictures of people in attendance. Not exactly the happiest of subject matter, but a treament that completely works with the tone and story of the song.

We’ve had the sheer luck of rocking out to the new album for a while not and we’re totally in love with it. But if you read this blog with any sort of consistency, that’s not really too hard to have figured out.

Warped Tour | Merriweather Post Pavillion Columbia, MD | 7.16.2008 | By Brian Graber

The summer institution that is Warped Tour rolled through the “DC Area” at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD on Wednesday. With no clouds, no humidity and a high of roughly 90, it seemed like a great day and it was for the most part.

HOWEVER, how can you have AGAINST ME! play at 11:45AM?!?! For realz? This year was quite possibly the earliest I ever arrived at a Warped Tour and due to the atrocious layout, it took nearly 30 minutes to walk from the entrance, down and around and across what felt like the Great Plains to get to the big board. (I believe it was Matt Caughthran from The Bronx who referred to it as “The Trail of Tears,” a common sentiment that many bands referenced during the day). Once down by the main stages we realized that AM! had already been playing for 20ish minutes. I then proceeded to run to the main stage and heard the end of “Sink, Florida, Sink,” “Don’t Lose Touch” and “Thrash Unreal.” You win some and lose some, but I didn’t want to lose that one. MFers… (more…)

MP3: The Gaslight Anthem | “The ‘59 Sound”

Friday, June 27th, 2008

It hasn’t been released yet but THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM’S new album The ‘59 Sound is already one of our top albums of the year. We will make it an official declaration on August 19th when SideOneDummy puts the album in stores.

The band posted their first single and title track, “The ‘59 Sound” up on their Myspace page. Go listen, now! It’s no surprise the song has tinges of live-ness to it, a nod to Springsteen’s Born In the USA perhaps?

The band is on doing a small stint on Warped Tour this summer before heading overseas. But they will be back in time for some record release shows set up. One at the Knitting Factory in NYC on August 16th and one at the Middle East in Boston the next day. If you can’t get out to see them then, swing by Vintage Vinyl on August 19th, or Looney Tunes on August 20th for in-store performances.

The Gaslight Anthem Have A Release Date For Their Next LP

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

The Gaslight Anthem | SXSW 2008

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM set a date for the release of their next LP (and first for SideOneDummy). The band plans on putting out The ‘59 Sound on August 19th. The band is currently in the studio with producer Ted Hutt (Flogging Molly, Bouncing Souls, Street Dogs) working to get the record together.

It’s been a pretty crazy run for TGA, with this new album, they’ll have released 2 albums (and 1 EP) over the course of 18 months. If that was not enough to keep them busy, they’ve toured nonstop playing with everyone and anywhere they could. The road doesn’t seem to end for the Anthem. This summer they will not only handle their first ever stint on the Warped Tour but they will hit Europe and Australia in between a string of both headlining dates and a few opening for The Bouncing Souls.

Hit up some dates after the jump. (more…)
