And That Was The (Live) Sound, Of The Very Last Gang In Town | The Clash To Release Live Album

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Bust out the Dr. Martens and get ready to skank! Epic records will release a live album from THE CLASH this fall. Though they’ve never gone out of style, there’s been a bit of a renaisance of the band as of late. With Joe Strummer getting a much talked about shout out on the new Hold Steady record and Carbon/Silicon making waves with their recent release The Last Post.

So on October 6th, we’ll be able to get the band’s Live At Shea Stadium. The album is 15 songs documenting one of the band’s most famous gigs - opening for The Who at Shea Stadium for two nights in 1982. The band put out a live album before (From Here To Eternity) but that release was a compilation of the band’s career and not one specific show.

Check out the tracklisting after the jump. (more…)

SXSW Live Blog | The Gang’s All Here

Friday, March 14th, 2008

I took MOBY over to Steve Jones’ show for Indie 103. They sang the blues.

There was this really weird moment where the Mobester, Steve Jones and Steve Lilywhite (sp?) were going on about Eliot Spitzer when suddenly the curtain (door) to the tiny room opened and in came Daryl Hall. Totally weird!

I think that I’ve been out in the sun for too long…

SXSW Live Blog | Keeping Up With The Joneses!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

I was interviewed by a corporation yesterday answering questions of “Why is it important to be at SXSW?” I couldn’t use the following answers: Beer, BBQ, Booze, etc. I did manage to stumble my way through the questions, but last night that simple question of “Why is it important to be at SXSW” was answered! I had dinner and drinks with Mick Jones of The Clash! (And of course Big Audio Dynamite & Carbon/Silicon). He mumbled some stuff at me, I nodded and just kept thinking – MICK JONES!

Also last night, My Morning Jacket gave me another great reason to attend SXSW! The band is amazing live and they ran through some classics and also sprinkled in some new jams (the album is fantastic) as well.

We finished the marathon night by catching some of Carbon/Silicon, The Old 97’s and then Jon Reis aka Rocket From The Crypt’s “Speedo” new band The Night Marchers. Imagine a little slower version of Rocket with really strong songs and Reis looks amazing!

A Clash Reunion Of Sorts

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Mick Jones has been on the road a lot lately in support of his current project with Tony James CARBON/SILICON. We even got a chance to see them.

But what we didn’t see when the band rolled through town was former drummer for The Clash, Topper Headon getting on stage to perform a few Clash tunes with Jones, which is what happened during the band’s Carbon Casino residency! Headon got on stage with the band and they performed two classic songs “Train In Vain”, and “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?” It was the first time Headon performed with another member of The Clash in 25 years and the first time there’s been an impromptu performance since Mick showed up on stage with Joe Strummer at Acton Town Hall back in 2002.

The best part about it? There’s video.

Dr Martens Want You To Last Forever, Enlist The Help Of Dead Celebrities To Show You

Joey Ramone

Boot maker DR MARTENS are starting a new “forever” based ad campaign. They are further driving the point home by using dead rockers to illustrate things.

Saatchi & Saatchi/London has a new print/poster campaign in the U.K. that cleverly employs four dead rock stars – Kurt Cobain, Sid Vicious, Joey Ramone and Joe Strummer – as Doc Martens endorsers. “We wanted to communicate that Dr. Martens boots are ‘made to last,’ ” explains writer Andrew Petch, “and we discovered that these idolized musicians wore them. Showing them still wearing their Docs in heaven dramatized the boots’ durability perfectly. And, as images, they feel very iconic.” As for the legal implications of enlisting the support of this particular fab four from beyond the grave, Petch says the images have been cleared for use in the U.K. only, in an arrangement with Corbis, supplier of the original photographs, which have been enhanced by photographer Dimitri Daniloff and retoucher Christophe Huet.

Joe, Kurt, and Sid ads can be seen after the jump. (more…)

Former Clash Bassist Helps Tear Down Legendary Venue

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Chop This Shizz UpOne of the rock’s most famous venues, Hammersmith Palais is closing after 88 years of playing host to live concerts. The West London music hall was immortalized in The Clash song “(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais”

So it was only fitting that former bassist of The Clash, Paul Simonon would take a piece of the venue with him.

On a farwell concert at the venue this weekend with with his new band The Good, the Bad and the Queen (which is a collaboration between Simonon and Blur’s Damon Albarn) Simonon said on stage “Before I go I think I’ve done enough to deserve a piece of the stage.”

Simonon then brought out an axe and took a few swings at the venue’s stage, breaking off a chunk of the floor and taking it with him. The audience then thunderously applauded the move as the band walked off stage.

Digg!

Video footage of the act can be seen after the jump. (more…)

I’d Rather Listen To My Clash Records All Night

Friday, November 17th, 2006

THE NORTH ATLANTIC, have just released their new video for the song “Scientist Girl”. A track where singer/guitarist Jason Hendrix yelps the statement “I’d rather listen to The Clash all night than be with you” making us all realize that no one, should trust a Scientist Girl. The track comes from their latest album Wires In The Walls which is in stores now.
