THE VADER PROJECT could be the perfect blend of pop culture for any geek out there. Blending pop culture, art, and well Star Wars to create something that might be passable enough as high culture that your girlfriend would not mind spending time with you looking at Darth Vader.

The project premiered back in 2007 during the Star Wars Celebration IV convention and has since traveled the world, being shown off at different conventions. Artists including the likes of Derek Hess, Marc Ecko, Dalek, and Paul Frank have since contributed thier artistic take on the sith lord, creating an ever-expanding world of geekdom for us all to enjoy.

Deal Or No Deal Gets The Interest Of 13-Year Old Matt Kleinschmidt, Even If Only For A Few Minutes

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I’m not a big fan of television game shows, especially those that air during prime time. However, there are times where I could be easliy swayed into watching them. Say if there were a theme to the night, like a special pop-culture edition of 1 Vs. 100 or as the case was this past Monday night, a special Star Wars themed Deal Or No Deal.

I’m a huge Star Wars fan and generally have to check out something with the Lucas stamp even though he’s pimped out his product to pretty much anything and everything for the better part of 30 years. Regardless, in an effort to say I saw it, I made it a point to watch at least part of DOND. (more…)

Star Wars: Where Geeks Meet Sad Losers Like Me Exhibit

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Yoda

I visited the new Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia this weekend. A very small but cool exhibit worth visiting if you’re in the area.

The “interactive” stuff is underwhelming and kid-oriented, but looking at all the original props, costumes and models from the movies up close was really awesome. It was also great to look around and realize that I’m not nearly as big of a geek as I thought I was (at least relative to the other man-children visiting). If you are too much of a closet dork to see for yourself, here are some pictures for you to look at. Enjoy.

Bonus Points: I only had to look something up on the Star Wars Databank once to correctly identify an exact droid, ship or creature name. I need to seek help.

Stars Wars Animated Series To Debut In Theaters This Summer

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Obi-Wan Lookin’ Animated

Many of us in the office are Star Wars nerds. Some have even gone to great lengths to own random movie memorbilia, while others have taken the obsession a bit further by naming their pets after characters in the series.

Because of these social tics it’s easy to see how we’ve been waiting a long time for George Lucas to let us know when the animated series about our beloved story was going to debut. Now that Lucas has wrapped up the latest edition of the Indiana Jones movies, we’ve been treated to some details. (more…)

Marc Ecko To Release Limited Edtion Star Wars Clothing Line

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Boba Fett HelmetIn celebration of the 30th anniversary of the movie STAR WARS release; clothing maker and self-professed “Lucas Fanatic” Marc Ecko is making a limited edition line of clothes in honor of the jedi, rebels, and empire.

“It is no secret that I am a fanboy of all things Star Wars and of George Lucas…So when the opportunity to create this collection arose, I jumped on it like Boba on his bounty. Our mission was to dig into Lucasfilm’s archives and emerge with a line that takes its cues from popular culture and adds the rich visual language that made Star Wars the most relevant fable of the last 100 years.”

Some of the clothes in the line will be a “Fett for Real” hoodie sweatshirt, a stone Yoda graphic tee and the “Ultimate Vader” hoodie, among other things. Many of the items are beaded, embroidered or feature extra embellishments that add to its fashion flair. Ecko also designed an authentic-style “Hoth Parka” as seen worn by Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back.

Pictures of the clothes can be seen after the jump. (more…)
