Far Announce “Worldwide” Reunion Tour, Cover Ginuine, Play With Ponies

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

FAR garners a lot of respect from certain circles of music fans. Many say they’ve gotten more popular than ever since their disbanding and are cited as a major influence on many of todays modern rock acts. We feel their influence is so great, the made our list of bands that should reunite. Now it seems like it might be time to cross them off that list…

For the last few weeks, the band has been teasing us with video clips on their website www.thebandfar.com saying there’d be a big announcement soon. The idea of some reunion shows tickles us all.

So where does this Hot Little Pony come into play? Well re-visiting the site directs you to a Myspace page for the band Hot Little Pony where a cover of the Ginuine song “Pony” plays that sounds suspiciously like one Jonah Matranga on vocals (the Vocorder addition is a nice touch).

Also on the site is a video news report stating Hot Little Pony will be embarking on a worldwide tour beginning on October 15th at the Glass House in Pamona, CA and ending on October 16th at the Troubadour in LA. The band is having a video contest where the people can post their video to the song. Winners get tickets to one of the shows as well as free HLP goodies and lifetime membership to their fan club.

There’s also a link to download the cover song at www.thebandfar.com/pony

Check out the video clip and tour dates after the jump. (more…)

Against Me! Frontman Readies Solo Album

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

AGAINST ME! frontman and founding member, Tom Gabel has announced he will be releasing a solo EP on October 28th. Right now I know what you are thinking…wasn’t AM! originally just Tob Gabel with an guitar when the band first began? The answer to that is yes. But over the years the lineup has solidified to the current 4 members, possibly making things weird if Tom just went and put out a new EP by himself under the same moniker.

The new EP, Heart Burns will come out on October 28th via Sire Records. Gabel recorded the album with Billy Bush and Butch Vig this past August. Steak Mtn, who has designed a lot of the AM!’s recent artwork for New Wave again did the art for this EP.

If you’d like to stay in the know with Tom’s progress, read his blog. He’s hitting the road solo after AM’s fall tour with Future Of The Left and Ted Leo. (more…)
