Murder By Death To Release Split 7-Inch

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Oh snap! More MURDER BY DEATH music is coming our way! It’s virtually impossible for us to hate anything this band does so we’re officially excited.

The band is putting out a 7-inch with tourmate and longtime friend. William Elliot Whitmore. This isn’t the first collaboration between The Death and Whitmore. Back in 2003 Whitmore provided some sing-about-buckshot-through-a-telephone backing vocals for the band’s sophomore album, Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them?

They are doing this release in the classic split 7-inch style, with the band’s covering each other’s songs. Murder By Death hopes to make this the first of many future splits done in this style.

The pressing will be limited and available through a pre-order on their website starting September 15th. The band also plans to sell copies on their national tour with Whitmore. The artwork for the split will be done by Drew James, the same artist who did the art for Who Will Survive…

The Death’s have also convinced former keyboardist, Vincent Edwards to sit in with them for one of their Chicago dates (11.20 at the Metro). The remaining Vincent-less tour dates can be seen after the jump. (more…)

Thursday Split With Envy Gets A Release Date, And Details

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

It’s been a while coming but we finally have a release date for the highly anticipated THURSDAY cd split with Japanese noise-rockers, ENVY.

The album will be released on November 4th through Temporary Residence records. It was recorded in the spring of 2008; while in the studio Thursday asked Anthony Molina from Mercury Rev to come in and perform a remix of a track, helping the album flow seamlessly between the two band’s musical styles.

The split will be available as a vinyl-only release, well sorta. When you purchase the 180-gram vinyl you will get a copy of the abum in cd form incorporated into the packaging. So in one package you will get both the vinyl and cd.

For the collectors, there will be 3 different screenprinted album colors available – metallic silver, metallic gold, and metallic orange. The orange one will only be available through Thursday’s merch store. The others will be availble through Temporary Residence’s store beginning with a pre-order on September 15th. Artist Dan Grzeca was commisioned to create the album art, a tornado of crows tearing through a landscape. Grzeca is not only a celebrated poster designer but has also done album covers for the likes of Iron & Wine and Explosions In The Sky.

You can read a press release, get a sneak peak at the album art and catch a tracklisting after the jump. (more…)

Laura Warshauer | The Syndicate Offices, NJ | 8.20.2008

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

LAURA WARSHAUER dropped by our offices this afternoon to perform a few songs for us in the laid back settings of our conference room. Considering how busy and noisey our office normally is, it was quite a site to see all 18 of us in a room listening intently and quietly as Laura performed. In fact I was the loudest one with the camera shutter click as I snapped pictures. (more…)

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

The first (annual?) All Points West festival took place in Jersey City this weekend. But it wasn’t really so much a festival, as just a big RADIOHEAD show with a lot of bands playing (at least from my point of view).

FRIDAY
The festivities kicked off Friday afternoon. Grizzly Bear delivered an awesome set on the side stage filled with brand new songs and favorites from Friend and Yellow House. Then Underworld got the crowd into a dancing mood before the highlight attraction took the stage. (more…)

Isaac Hayes Remembered | By Rob Drucker

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Yesterday, the world lost a musical treasure in ISAAC HAYES, who passed away in his Tennessee home at the age of 65. During his life, Hayes enjoyed a successful career as songwriter, producer, musician, actor, and voice-over artist.

Hayes got his start as a songwriter for Stax in 1962 with friend David Porter, and penned tunes for Carla Thomas, The Astors, and many hits for the R&B duo Sam & Dave. Later in the decade he launched his own solo career with albums such as 1967’s Introducing Isaac Hayes and 1969’s Hot Buttered Soul.

Hayes’ first four albums featured a mix of his own funk workouts along with interpretations of classic songs by Burt Bacharach and Jerry Butler. Covers of “I Stand Accused,” and “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” featured 5-8 minute long raps about love and its ups and downs which segued into 10 minute covers of the original songs. (more…)
