Murder By Death To Release Split 7-Inch

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Oh snap! More MURDER BY DEATH music is coming our way! It’s virtually impossible for us to hate anything this band does so we’re officially excited.

The band is putting out a 7-inch with tourmate and longtime friend. William Elliot Whitmore. This isn’t the first collaboration between The Death and Whitmore. Back in 2003 Whitmore provided some sing-about-buckshot-through-a-telephone backing vocals for the band’s sophomore album, Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them?

They are doing this release in the classic split 7-inch style, with the band’s covering each other’s songs. Murder By Death hopes to make this the first of many future splits done in this style.

The pressing will be limited and available through a pre-order on their website starting September 15th. The band also plans to sell copies on their national tour with Whitmore. The artwork for the split will be done by Drew James, the same artist who did the art for Who Will Survive…

The Death’s have also convinced former keyboardist, Vincent Edwards to sit in with them for one of their Chicago dates (11.20 at the Metro). The remaining Vincent-less tour dates can be seen after the jump. (more…)

MP3: Adam Turla | “The Moon Is Up”

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

ADAM TURLA lead singer/drinker of MURDER BY DEATH has released a new track online. The song, called “The Moon Is Up” was posted on a myspace page Turla made for the song, which is described as a B-Side.

Is seems Turla posted the track strictly to share, because reading the page gives off no notification there’s a solo album in the works. No art, no friends and a post that friend requests and comments will not be approved.

MP3: Murder By Death | “‘52 Ford” | Live On WSOU

Monday, April 14th, 2008

A few days ago, MURDER BY DEATH was in town to headline the Bowery Ballroom. Earlier the same day, I put the band’s lead singer Adam Turla in my car and headed down the road to WSOU for an on-air interview with the radio station and it’s central Jersey audience.

About halfway through the interview, Adam busted out a steel guitar and performed an acousic version of the song “‘52 Ford”, from the band’s latest album Red Of Tooth And Claw. I snapped pictures and the folks at the station were nice enough to record Adam’s performance.

Murder By Death | Bowery Ballroom, NYC | 4.4.2008

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

MURDER BY DEATH played their first headlining show ever at Bowery Ballroom in NYC. It was a big night for the band and they definitely delivered. Taking the stage around 11pm and immediately ripping through a setlist of songs from their new album Red Of Tooth And Claw as well as favorites from their previous albums. We were even treated to a live version of “I’m Afraid Of Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Wolfe” from the band’s first album, Like The Exorcist But More Breakdancing. (more…)

MURDER BY DEATH’S upcoming album, Red Of Tooth And Claw is easily one of our most anticipated records of 2008. We’ve already been listening a bit too much since we got an early copy in the office. We can tell you that it’s going to blow some minds! Rather than tease you all by telling you how awesome it is, Vagrant made their first single, “Fuego” available for you to download. Thank you Vagrant!

The band also has a pre-sale happening for the album. If you order the cd, you can score a t-shirt. It’s also available on vinyl. Either way, the artwork shows wolves fighting and some skulls on octopi, so we all win!

Murder By Death Give Us Some Tooth And Claw Updates

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Red Of Tooth And ClawMURDER BY DEATH have more updates on their upcoming 4th studio album, Red Of Tooth And Claw. We already know the new album will be released on March 4th via Vagrant Records. Now we have some more updates.

1 - The album’s art has been released, peep it now. It has dancing wolves on it making it pretty much the awesomest thing we’ve ever seen.

2 - A new track from the album, “Fuego” has been posted on their myspace page. Go listen…now! Shit’s hotter than a tin roof in the Alabama summer.

3 - You can pre-order Red Of Tooth And Claw on blue vinyl now! Somewhere, off in the darkness of some midwestern ghost town, there’s a skeleton wearing a holster full of guns, shedding a tear for justice.

All these updates are amazing! It’s kinda like the band held a meeting and asked each other, “Hey what are things we can to make Matt’s head explode? Okay, lets do all of them just to be sure our bases are covered.”
