Moby Accepts Musicsnobery’s Request

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Late last week we reported Chris from Musicsnobery.com put out a request to MOBY and a few other musicians to fill last minute slot for the site’s 3rd anniversary party. And it seems the request paid off.

According to a post on his Myspace blog this morning, Moby has accepted his offer to play.

You can read the word from Moby after the jump. (more…)

What’s My Line, Moby?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Last Sunday afternoon, I attended a wedding for a long time friend from my college radio days and ended up meeting J. Keith van Staaten during an endless (and I mean endless) variety of drinks and appetizers. Keith is the host and director for What’s My Line - Live On Stage which takes place in the West Village (NYC) every Monday night. If you’re not old enough to remember the 50s-60s TV show (many of us are not), you might have seen reruns on the Game Show Network. Anyway, the show has bit where panelists try to guess a mystery guest celebrity. In the past, they’ve had stars raging from Larry King to Jose Canseco to Lisa Loeb all the way to NORM! himself, George Wendt. (more…)

SXSW Live Blog | The Gang’s All Here

I took MOBY over to Steve Jones’ show for Indie 103. They sang the blues.

There was this really weird moment where the Mobester, Steve Jones and Steve Lilywhite (sp?) were going on about Eliot Spitzer when suddenly the curtain (door) to the tiny room opened and in came Daryl Hall. Totally weird!

I think that I’ve been out in the sun for too long…

MOBY has a new video, this one is for a new jam off his upcoming album Last Night. The album is due out on Mute records which is a new label for dj/punk rockers/activist/vegan since his last lavel, V2 folded. The song is called “Alice” and the video is directed by Andreas Nilsson, who is no stranger to Mute artists, directing films for the label’s bands like The Knife, Mando Diao, and Jose Gonzalez.

Moby Signs To Mute US

Friday, June 15th, 2007

MobyEver since V2 Records closed its doors a few months ago, there’s been lots of speculation where its artists would end up label-wise. Some of the bigger artists have already signed to different labels.

Today some more of that uncertaintly has been laid to rest with Mute Records announcing that it has signed dj, punk rocker, vegan, acitivist, and mixmaster MOBY to it’s US branch of the label.

I’ve been on Mute everywhere in the world except for North America for the last 14 years, now I’m finally on Mute for North America,” says Moby. “I’m happy, because Mute has been my favorite label for most of the last 25 years, and it’s nice to finally be on Mute in the country where I actually live.”

Since signing to Mute UK in 1993, Moby has sold more than 20-million albums worldwide. His career has been a story of extremes and paradoxes. This intense, driven individual has been a hip underground New York DJ and a punk rock drummer, a determinedly ascetic maker of euphoric dance music, a highly aware environmentalist and social commentator who jumps around stage like a dervish and, finally, a sharply astute advocate of alternative lifestyles who is also one of the biggest music stars in the world.

Right now Moby is working on new material for a new record (TBD) as well as handling some dj gigs across the world this summer.
