Hot Water Music, Thursday, Paint It Black | Terminal 5, NYC | 7.10.2008

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

As many have noted, this past weekend in New York was the greatest “punk rock” weekend in sometime. Saturday night alone saw performances across the city from Hot Water Music, Alkaline Trio, Circle Jerks, Dillinger 4, American Steel, Paint It Black, Thursday, Trash Talk and more. If only they had made a huge festival out of this.

As you can tell by the headline, we caught the Hot Water Music reunion show which had support from Thursday and Paint It Black. Each band was spot on, and the ferocious Paint It Black even did a damn fine job making Terminal 5 seem like a basement show as Dan Yemin stood against the barrier the whole time as the crowd gathered close and screamed along.

Thursday’s set included a few songs from each full length as well as a new song from their forthcoming split with Envy. It was an instrumental track called, “In Silence” that sounded stunning.

Hot Water Music was amazing as always. This was actually the third show on their ongoing reunion tour I have seen this year and they never disappoint.

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Earlier this month we announced HOT WATER MUSIC would be performing a reunion show at Terminal 5 in NYC this summer (July 12th).

Well it was just announced that THURSDAY will be joining HWM on stage and the show is now going to be a co-headlining gig. Paint It Black will handle the opening duties.

TICKETS: Thursday | Hot Water Music at Terminal 5

The official statement from Thursday’s lead singer Geoff Rickly.

Hey all-

We’re excited to announce an amazing show we will be playing in NYC this summer. On July 12th, at Terminal 5, we’re co-headlining a show with the legendary Hot Water Music. This band was one of the main influences on us when we started Thursday. Seeing their shows at the church in philly and the melody bar in New Brunswick provided a the spark for us that we still hold close to our hearts. We’re also happy to be playing our first show in Manhattan in two years. hrow on one of the most consistently awesome hardcore bands around today- Paint It Black– and this show is a dream come true for us.

Can’t wait to see you there,
Geoff

Hot Water Music Announce NYC Show!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

A few weeks back at SXSW, we were treated to one of a few sporadic HOT WATER MUSIC reunion shows. People went nuts and were (literally) swinging from the rafters. Because the show was so damn good, it left us all feening for more of the band. We couldn’t get enough.

It seems others are in the same boat, for we’ve just discovered the band will be doing a NYC date this summer! It was announced on July 12th the band will hit Terminal 5 in NYC, giving us all another chance to dance.

Tickets go on sale May 10th (this Saturday) at 12noon. We can’t imagine them lasting long.

SXSW Live Blog | Hot Water Music Vs. Lucero

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

I realized something important today: it’s extremely tough to really give an honest opinion on two bands you absolutely love seeing.

By far, Hot Water Music definitely has stolen the show for what I’ve seen so far at South by Southwest. Amazing songs, seminal band that any self-respecting punk fan would kill to see. Yes, they played all the jams, including “Free Radio Gainesville” and “Turnstile.” The jams you bleed for - the ones you recall when you were in high school singing along to when you were driving around town and trying to score some mid-day Taco Bell on the cheap.

It’s 1 AM and I’m eating up the fact Lucero’s playing “Tears Don’t Matter Much.” They are one of those bands that could perfectly cap off any evening…Whiskey soaked anthems that’ll stick with you until the wee hours when you realize, “hey, I’ve been drinking since 2 and this is seriously the best thing since I realized I can turn into a statue bear in Super Mario 3 and beat the game without using one of those silly whistles.”

I was stopped in the middle of this post by another fan, saying, “whoa, that’s a long text.” I had to clarify by explaining, yes, I am differentiating between HWM and Lucero. Two great performances that definitely are the highlights of my SXSW experience so far.
