IdioSYNcratic Routine: What Made Milwaukee Famous

Friday, April 11th, 2008

It’s that time again - IdioSYNcratic Routine is back to mess with your face and appendages. This time, we asked WHAT MADE MILWAUKEE FAMOUS’ drummer, Jeremy Bruch “tough” questions about ridiculous things like food, bat piss (they brought it up, not us), and about one legendary bike riding champion.

Idiosyncratic Routine | Alexandra Patsavas | Founder Chop Shop Records

Friday, March 21st, 2008

We had a chance to catch up with Chop Shop Records founder Alexandra Patsavas. The first release on Chop Shop will be The Republic Tigers. Now that we think about it, we should have asked more questions about the band. But since she’s responsible for providing the soundtrack to TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and The O.C., she helped us make the soundtrack to our lives instead.

The Republic Tigers

SYN: Pat in our office, who has never watched Gossip Girl put this together for you (note there are some plot flaws here): Blair and Nate on the roof of a building and now Blair is talking about her drunken grandmother who is not only mean and classist, but also once had a daughter who is Blairs mom and told her to eat an entire pie on Thanksgiving even though Blair used to have an eating disorder and suddenly Blair and Nate are back together(!) and Chuck Bass overhears all of this and the news breaks Chuck Bass heart and he skips town wearing a turtleneck and now theres a shot of the Queensborough Bridge! What song is playing in the background? (more…)

IdioSYNcratic Routine | Richard Z Kruspe Of Rammstein And Emigrate

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Richard of EmigrateFor this IdioSYNcratic Routine, we caught up with Richard Z Kruspe, guitarist of longtime German rockers RAMMSTEIN. We caught him hot on the heels of the release of the amazing live DVD/CD Rammstein boxed set Volkerball and in the middle of launching the record for his side project EMIGRATE.

The first big launch of Emigrate will be the appearance of their song “My World” as the theme song to the new movie Resident Evil: Extinction which hits theaters this weekend. (more…)

IdioSYNcratic Routine | Andrew WK

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Andrew WKGoing through our archive of 5 interview questions we used to do with people I unearthed this gem. It’s with the one and only ANDREW WK and it took place back in 2002, the time of the release of AWK’s album I Get Wet. Enjoy the jackassery.

Andrew WK has so many friends it can be hard to steal a minute of his time for frivolity much less sit down for a serious interview. We were able to combine a little of both worlds with this latest edition of The 5. Share in our joy as we learn about the color chart, proper body odor and
geography.

IdioSYNcratic Routine: Echoboy

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Richard Warren is EchoboyIn this edition of IdioSYNcratic Routine, I got to dish out my brand of silly questions. This time, they were directed toward the one Richard Warren better known to most as ECHOBOY.

This interview comes right off the heels of the release of his newest album Elektrik Soul Psymphonie. His first album since 2003 and first on new label, The First Time Records. (more…)

IdioSYNcratic Routine: Six.By Seven

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Six.By Seven’s Chris OlleyWe’ve been singing the praises of SIX.BY SEVEN on this blog for a while now and we’ve been fans for even longer. So you could imagine our pure joy when the leader of the band Chris Olley agreed to answer some of questions for this installment of IdioSYNcratic Routine.

Matt, Pat, Jon and Graham came up with the best totally random questions they could think of and the following is the result.

How do you feel today?
Tired

Does the “Sawn Off Metallica T-Shirt” actually exist? Any chance getting a picture of it?
I’m sure it does, I have seen a few at festivals. (more…)

EXCLUSIVE: IdioSYNcratic Routine: Band Of Thieves (Free MP3)

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

The Band of Thieves are bringing straight-up rock and roll back to the streets of New York City. Formed from ex-members of Midtown and Billionaire Boys Club, among others, the gents are quickly becoming one of the most talked about bands in the city, recently having sold out The Mercury Lounge (and then some) after just a few shows.

The band’s front man, Tyler, took a few to answer some questions! Check it all out after the jump.

Digg!

IdioSYNcratic Routine: Permanent Me

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

January 23rd of this year coincidently marked both the discovery of a rare frilled shark as well as the release of Long Island-based Permanent Me’s album After The Room Clears on Stolen Transmission Records. Why was this a coincidence? I do not know. But perhaps drummer Mike Fleishman can clear things up for us by participating in another installment of… IdioSYNcratic Routine! (more…)

Idiosyncratic Routine: The Emergency

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

The EmergencyIn this episode of Idiosyncratic Routine we got our chance to ask some questions of West Virginia’s own THE EMERGENCY. The band’s lead singer/guitarist (and all around swell guy) Rob Wherle subjected himself to our own brand of interviewing skills answering questions ranging from everything to his band’s new album Doo-Lang Doo-Lang to his appearance on 70’s television shows.

Call it what you want, but we have a good time asking the questions. We just hope he has just as good a time answering them. (more…)

Idiosyncratic Routine: Mando Diao

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

mando-interview-header.jpgThis post marks an inauguration of sorts for our blog. It’s the first installment of the tentatively titled, Idiosyncratic Routine, which will become a pretty regular feature around here.

The formula is simple, we are going to contact bands who we think are cool, and fill a void by asking them five questions that we’ve scientifically proven to be queries omitted either intentionally, or accidentally by other reporters and journalists. Some questions that will be asked may seem awkward, but do not fret, we assure you that many others will actually prove themselves to be “slightly less awkward”, and hopefully every once in awhile we’ll stumble upon something provocative and actually produce a damn fine piece of journalism. We’re trying to be optimistic.

So without further ado here are five questions with our pal Björn Dixgård, frontman for the Sweedish rock-outfit Mando Diao*. You enjoy this.
