VIDEO: Death Cab For Cutie | “Cath”

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

The second single from the latest DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE album, Narrow Stairs puts us in a peculiar place.

The song, “Cath” has always been a standout song on the record, but we’ve always thought it to be more an early early release track (ya know, for the fans) before they launched into a track with more hooks on the album (say like, “No Sunlight”). But then again in a perfect world, Ben, Chris, Nick, and Jason probably could have said something like “Look - we’re Death Cab For Cutie and we kick ass and had a #1 album in the country. We can do whatever the hell we want!” Maybe they did that already, how else could you explain an 8.5 minute first single?

Check out the video, featuring Lucas Haas, the band showing off their lyp-syncing abilities, and some grass in places where it doesn’t belong.

Whirly Ball Makes Death Cab A Better Band

Monday, June 16th, 2008

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE have been picked to be a 52/52 artist on MTV. Meaning for a week straight, clips of the band will air in between programs on the (former) music channel.

Rather than just air some live performances, the band decided to record a few clips of them performing at Whirly Ball recreation center in Washington. We know they have a sense of humor by seeing clips of Ben’s side project, Just Jazzin’ but watching this clip where Ben “Stretch” Gibbard explains to us Whirly Ball makes Death Cab a better band, might take things to a new level.

Seeing Chris Walla walk around in a cast, he’s either acting well or things might have gotten a bit too competetive on those bumper cars.
