Triumph The Insult Comic Dog Unleashes On ComicCon

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

We always love it when there’s a big “geek” convention happening. One of the reasons is because we’re usually front and center participating in the madness. The other reason is because there’s a pretty good chance Triumph The Insult Comic Dog would be on the scene for Conan O’Brien ready to deal on the unsuspecting attendees.

His arrival at the Star Wars premiere still ranks up as one of our most favorite clips to continually watch. Now we have another one to add to the list, this time Triumph took on ComicCon 2008. A clip of Triumph dealing on the “huge nerds” is after the jump. (more…)

Watchmen Trailer Creates Skyrocketing Sales For Obscure Smashing Pumpkins Track

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Online buzz remains high for the upcoming film adaptation of classic graphic novel Watchmen, though rumor has it the studio is concerned over its mainstream potential. Hollywood can now rest easier thanks to an unlikely indicator of the recently-released trailer’s success.

The trailer prominently (though without credit) features SMASHING PUMPKINS b-side “The Beginning is the End is the Beginning”, a cut from the 1997 Batman & Robin soundtrack (a rather unfortunate coincidence, if you ask us). Following the trailer’s July 18 release, the track took over the top spot as the Pumpkins’ all-time best selling song on iTunes - before the end of the weekend.

It took less than 3 days for the song to pass the all-time iTunes sales of hit singles like “1979″ and “Tonight, Tonight”. This statistic should put the song’s zero-to-sixty momentum into perspective: the week prior to the trailer’s release, it sold just 11 copies. The week following, it sold over ten thousand. That’s over a 94,000% increase. Yes, ninety-four thousand percent. For an 11 year-old song!

That has to be one of the all-time best sales spikes for a single after being featured on a movie soundtrack. Billy Corgan was not available at press time to comment on this story, or his eerie resemblance to Dr. Manhattan.

The Friday List: The 10 Worst Superhero Movies Ever

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Welcome to another (and missed we assure you) version of the Friday List. This week’s topic came pretty easily to us while riding on the bus the other day. While in the midst of a (deeply geeked-out we assure you) debate about The Dark Knight movie that’s hitting theaters this weekend – we started rambling off some of the worst superhero movies of all time. Thus putting us on a tear of what would we consider the best of the worst.

A few minutes later we had our list and our reasons. (more…)

A Trailer For The New Watchmen Movie Finally Surfaces, Let The Fanboy Gushing Begin!

Friday, July 18th, 2008

When you head on out to see THE DARK KNIGHT this weekend, make sure you catch the trailer for the new WATCHMEN movie. It will be debuting before before Batman and the Joker do epic battle.

Yup, the often dubbed, “Best Graphic Novel Of All Time” has been made into a movie. Our hope now is the same one every comic book geek has…Don’t Screw It Up! The trailer depicts the film in a great light giving us hope for 03.06.09 when the movie hits theaters. Will it be as big as The Dark Knight? Probably not. But if it can be as good as The Dark Knight, we’d be completely happy.

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Hey! Did you hear there’s a new Batman movie coming out? Somehow knowledge of this slipped past me? I have to catch up. Who’s in it? Any good bad guys? Does Katie Holmes return? Details people, Details! No one is talking about this! I guess I’ll have to draw all my conclusions from this new movie poster they just released.

Garfield Minus Garfield Echoes My Breakfast Time

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

What happens when you Photoshop Garfield and his ubiquitous quips from his own comic? As parody site Garfield Minus Garfield proves, you see Jon Arbuckle for who he really is: a dark, lonely everyman who eats away the days by talking to himself. We find Jon having some shockingly deep existential moments. Basically, it becomes a comic about me having my morning coffee. Enjoy.
