Coldplay Accused Of “Songs I Didn’t Write” Moment

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

A Brooklyn-based band CREAKY BOARDS is accusing Chris Martin and the rest of COLDPLAY for stealing the melody of one of their songs and using in the band’s sing “Viva la Vida”.

Creaky Boards stated their song called, “The Songs I Didn’t Write” (irony anyone?) was the inspiration for Martin and this is beyond just a coincidence. The band stated they saw Martin in the audience of a performance they did during the CMJ Music Marathon in October 2007.

Creaky Boards singer Andrew Hoepfner posted a video explaining his take on the situation. A rep for Coldplay told the Guardian that Coldplay cut a demo for “Viva la Vida” in March 2007 and Martin was not at the CMJ Marathon show because the band was in London recording the new album at the time in question.

We did a bit of our own sleuthing and checked out the CMJ Marathon schedule from 2007 and the Creaky Boards do not appear on it anywhere. Lies? Truth? Watch the video and make up your own mind.

Prospekting For Cold(play)

Monday, January 14th, 2008

ColdplaySee that? See what I did there with the play on words in the title? That’s wordplay genius right there. Speaking about plays, the rumor mill is running wild about COLDPLAY and their next studio album that will be the followup to X&Y.

The mill tells us that the album will be titled Prospekt, runs 43 minutes in length and is due out on May 19th. We’re assuming the band’s longtime label Capitol Records is putting out the album but there are also rumors that the band will be the next band to pull a “Radiohead” and leave EMI.

Perhaps the most interesting rumor floating around there is that the band might have album sponsorship for the release. Who knows what this means but if you see a logo from GM on the back of the album, it could be a new way albums get made in the future. Who knows, all of this seems to be rumored at the moment.

There is also a tracklisting floating around.

1. Famous Old Painters
2. Glass Of Water
3. Lost!
4. Cemeteries Of London
5. Violet Hill
6. Poppy Fields
7. 42
8. Yes!
9. Leftrightleftright
10. Rainy Day
11. Prospekt’s March
