Beirut, Final Fantasy | Bowery Ballroom, NYC | 5.9.2007

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Got a chance to check out the Beirut/Final Fantasy show last night and it was pretty great. I actually almost bailed on it, too. I fractured my elbow after tripping over some Hot Topic reject at Bamboozle so I kind of wanted to take it easy. However, as some of you may recall, Beirut put out my second favorite record of last year and I have yet to see them in a proper way. Just half a show at the McCarren Pool last summer and a blur at this year’s SXSW. Yeah, so I “manned up” and hit the show.

I also had to see Final Fantasy. Seeing as I have been a total Final Fantasy nerd since I was like 10, it would be kind of retarded for me to not see a band of the same name. So I got there in time to check out the entire set by Owen Pallet, who also is known to play with some band called Arcade Fire. (more…)

Beirut Releases 2-Song eMusic Exclusive

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I signed onto eMusic this morning to see if I might find something new to use some of my 8 remaining downloads for the month on and what do I find? I find a Beirut, 2-song eMusic Exclusive EP! The collection is called Pompeii “Fountains and Tramways” and “Napoleon on the Bellorophon.”

Honestly, as much as I am all about Beirut, the songs are a bit weak. However, I am talking about Beirut here, which means the songs are  definitely worth the $.50 in credits you’ll need to pony up if you’re an eMusic subscriber.

Beirut Playing NYC Shows, Continue To Be Awesome | Tour Dates, MP3, Video

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Sorry majority of the country but this post doesn’t so much apply to you as it does to us here in the NYC area. However, to make up for it, I posted some Beirut goodies for you below as well!

However, the point here, is that Zach Condon and the rest of the people that now make up Beirut will be playing two shows in New York in May. Info is:

May 5 @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC
May 6 @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC

Tickets go on sale at noon. I will be at least one of these shows. As I have trumpeted in the past, the music this guy makes is beautiful. Listen and watch below and then say something like “You know what Jim? You’re totally right!” I know this.
