The Syndicate’s Michelle Rakshys Sits On NYMIA Panel
Last week I was fortunate enough to speak with a room full of future music industry executives and artists.
Baruch College in Manhattan hosted a panel on Artist Management and Marketing for the New York Music Industry Association. Along with Emily Rosenblum from Tony Margerita Management and Ari Martin from Nettwork Management, I was invited to share my thoughts on how artist management and marketing operates, how to enter into a position of this type, and my overall feelings on the future of the music industry.
The questions were all clearly coming from people studying the music business – a refreshing difference from questions coming from casual music fans, and varied from marketing differences for new and developed artists to revenue streams of artist managers. Another pleasant surprise was the amount of students interesting in applying for a Synner (street rep) position for the Syndicate’s marketing department, showing me that the younger generation understands the value of hard work and building their resumes.
Past speakers of the Association have include Mad Linx of BET, Michel Marriott of the New York Times, Jeff Dodes of the Zomba Label Group and Pharoahe Monch, and artist on Universal Motown Records.
