Myster Science Theater DVD Finally Gets A Street Date

It seems like we’ve patiently waited for this announcement since Shout! Factory picked up the rights to it earlier this year. But the wait is almost over! The cult tv show, Mystery Science Theater 3000 will get a DVD release on October 28th.

The followed the plight of Joel (also the show’s creator) a kidnapee by a mad scientist, who gets put in a space station and forced to watch terrible B-movies. To keep sane, Joel builds buddy robots out of random space parts to watch the movies with him, the robots act as companionship for Joel and crack biting commentary as they all watch the movies. The show ran for 10 seasons starting in 1988 - first as a local show in Minneapolis, getting picked up by the Comedy Channel (which later became Comedy Central) where the bulk of it’s seasons aired. The show finished it’s last few seasons on the Sci-Fi Channel ending in 1999.

The 20th Year (really? 20 years?) Anniversary Edition DVD will be 4 discs containing 4 unreleased episodes along with a ton of bonus content that explains the show’s origins, life and afterlife. There will also be new interviews with the entire cast and production as well as footage shot at a 20th Anniversary Reunion panel. The set will also have cool packaging with a figuring of Crow T. Robot and trading cards. Enough to make pretty much any fanboy of the cult show jump for joy.
