Thriving Ivory | Mercury Lounge, NYC | 7.21.2008

THRIVING IVORY is part of the new class at Wind-Up Records, who like most of their artists, appeal to a modern rock fan, but in this case leaning away from Creed and towards The Fray’s piano rock side of things. And when I say “piano rock” I emphasize the “rock” in the sense of people throwing their hands in the hair, pumping their fists along with the guitar riffs, which was present at their show last night at the Mercury Lounge. It was a solid live show until the last song of their set…which made it a great live show. Thriving Ivory covering Led Zeppelin makes more sense than icing on cupcakes or fries with a burger. Clay’s vocals are high enough to reach Plant’s in the final stages of “Stairway to Heaven”, and left me very impressed.

Though we didn’t capture video last night, someone else did at a previous show, which you can check out below.
