MP3: The Bronx | “Knifeman”

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

THE BRONX have been hard at work on (count ‘em) 2 new records guaranteed to slay. Break out the marracas and pinatas.

The band stated way back when they will be making a mariachi record under the moniker of “El Bronx”. They have already realeased some track titles like “Qualude Quesadilla” and “If You Build It, We Will Paint It”. If the songs are as good as the album titles, we’ll be in good shape.

The band recently build a new recording studio, The Big Game Lodge and recorded an new “Bronx” album as well. Both records are slated for a late summer release. So rather than sit around their studio and drink beer, they are hitting the road on Warped Tour.

Knowing full and well their fans will not be able to contain their need to hear new music, they put a new track up on their myspace page for you to stream and more importantly, download.

Time to break stuff…

The Brothers Unconnected: A Tribute to the music of Sun City Girls And Charles Gocher | Knitting Factory, NYC | 6.22.2008 | By Rob Drucker

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Last night at the Knitting Factory, brothers Alan and (Sir) Richard Bishop brought their Brothers Unconnected Tour to New York’s Knitting Factory for an over two hour tribute to the music of SUN CITY GIRLS.

Sun City Girls officially disbanded last year when cancer claimed the life of drummer Charles Gocher. For a seemingly farewell tour, the two remaining band members have embarked on a tour to pay homage to their fallen bandmate and the music they all made together. Most tour dates open with a 40-minute film Gocher had been working on before he died. After that, Richard and Alan play two hours of songs culled from all throughout the band’s 27-year history.

Playing songs off acclaimed records such as Dante’s Disneyland Inferno, Torch of the Mystics, and Horse Cock Phepner, in addition to plenty of banter with the audience and sadistic poems written by Gocher, the set did not disappoint, and even on two acoustic guitars, the songs stood up and retain their brilliance.

The tour resumes tomorrow in Pittsburgh. Dates below the cut. (more…)

Modest Mouse | Music Hall Of Williamsburg, NYC | 6.20.2008

Friday, June 20th, 2008

MODEST MOUSE “fired it up” last night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg with a secret show which took place after they opened for R.E.M. earlier that evening at Madison Square Garden. Fans were everywhere outside of the venue looking for tickets to get in, one even offered me a $100 for my $20 ticket which I politely declined. The advertised set time at 1:30 AM wound up being 2:30 AM.

Isaac Brock claimed that he feels like he is in his prime at these hours of the night, and they did play pretty damn well, until they abruptly stopped at 4AM stating they were told they had to end the show. Check out more pictures after the jump. (more…)

Save Gas, Drive Blood Car

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

In a world with rising gas prices, something like a BLOOD CAR might be a bigger reality than ever expected. Yeah we know it’s a silly idea but c’mon! Why didn’t we think of this!? We all know that gas prices are spinning out of control. Why not make a blood car?

Read the synopsis and ask yourself if there is any way this movie can’t be the Snakes On A Plane of 2008. (more…)

Journey’s New Lead Singer May Not Look Like Steve Perry, But He Sure Sounds Like Him

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Everyone’s had a JOURNEY moment. Maybe you were at a bar and “Open Arms” came on the jukebox prompting you to sing along. Perhaps you attended a wedding and the band kicked off a stirring rendition of “Faithfully”. Or it could be that you forgot how awesome, “Don’t Stop Believing” was until you were reminded during the series finale of The Sopranos. Well it seems one man’s Journey moment landed him a job.

This clip came across the back room this week and it was too good not to share. The band had been without singer, Steve Perry for some time now. But it seems they’ve finally found a perfectly suitable replacement and in a pretty unlikely spot. On the internet, in the Philipines.

The band recently recruited, Arnel Pineda after guitarist Neal Schon found him on the internet doing cover songs of his band. Schon was so impressed with Pineda he was rehearsing with the band just days later.

So now the band has a new Filipinio singer who, according to other accounts on the internet, doesn’t speak much English, but can belt out Journey songs like he wrote those things himself.

Leon Was Definitely The Funniest Part Of Curb Your Enthusiasm This Season

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

This week marked the start of some of our favorite shows on the premium cable channels, Weeds, Penn & Teller’s Bullshit among them. Since we have to wait until the Fall for new episodes of Dexter and Curb Your Enthusiasum, it was a welcome relief when we got this clip passed to us of “the best of Leon” from Curb to hold us over. We’re not sure how producers can, but they HAVE to figure out how to keep him on the show for the next season.

Some of our favorite parts include “I’m the Barack Obama of hittin’ that ass!”, “I bring a Rukus to the ladies!” and who can forget “Get in that ass Larry”?
