MURDER BY DEATH played their first headlining show ever at Bowery Ballroom in NYC. It was a big night for the band and they definitely delivered. Taking the stage around 11pm and immediately ripping through a setlist of songs from their new album Red Of Tooth And Claw as well as favorites from their previous albums. We were even treated to a live version of “I’m Afraid Of Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Wolfe” from the band’s first album, Like The Exorcist But More Breakdancing.
We’ve seen The Death numerous times and this show was definitely their chance to shine and they didn’t disappoint. The diverse crowd was there to reciprocate the love, singing along and fist-pumping along to songs new and old. Metalheads, indie rockers, hipsters alike chanted along with lead singer Adam Turla’s baritone voice as he howled and belted out the songs, almost as if he needed to get the demons out. He may have not been trying to raise the dead but we’re pretty sure whiskey-soaked spirits were abound, helping to raise the roof.
