Thursday Announce Split LP+CD With Japanese Experimental Band Envy

posted by Matt on April 2nd, 2008 in Envy, Music, News, Thursday

THURSDAY have been fans of the Japanese experimental outfit ENVY for some time now. So Thursday decided it was time to team up with both Envy and it’s label Temporary Residence (Explosions In The Sky, Mono, By The End Of Tonight) to release a split LP+CD.

There is no street date for the release yet but the label is eyeing Sept/Oct as a timeline. The LP and CD will be packaged and sold together as one piece and will only be found in independent retail stores. There will also be a deluxe-limited edition release that will have hand-screenprinted artwork and will be sold exclusively through Temporary Residence’s website.

Statements from Thursday and Temporary Residence can be read after the jump.

THURSDAY’S STATEMENT

It’s our pleasure to announce a split release with one of our favorite bands in the world. We are currently in the studio recording tracks for a 12″ release with Japan’s Envy. For those of you unfamiliar with Envy, they are an experimental, epic, lush post-rock band that’s heavier than just about anything we’ve ever heard. Despite the enormous geographical distances between us, the bands have evolved from the same thrashy underground post-hardcore scene (They’ve toured the states and shared stages with our friends in Malady and Hot Cross). Honestly, there’s no way to properly describe them.

TEMPORARY RESIDENCE’S STATEMENT:

We’ve decided to convert rumor into fact and lay it all out for all you good peoples. New Jersey’s Thursday and Old Tokyo’s Envy will come together to release a split LP+CD this fall, released by Temporary Residence Ltd. It will be a limited edition LP+CD set; there will be no separated CD or LP versions. Both formats will come in one package, and both will contain the same music. This means it may not be available in Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City, or most “record” stores in the mall. But it will certainly be available at your local independently owned record store, while supplies last. We’re not yet sure how limited it will be; maybe 10,000, maybe a billion (probably closer to the former, as we really don’t have space for a billion LPs). In addition, there will be a deluxe, hand-printed edition that will be sold exclusively through our webstore. These will be screenprinted by hand, and will be limited colored vinyl editions. There is no specific release date set yet, but look for this around Sep/Oct.

Thursday will play a handful of shows in April where they will be debuting some new music.

April 24 The Chance Poughkeepsie, NY
April 25 Chameleon Club Lancaster, PA
April 26 Montclair State University Montclair, NJ Montclairfest

Sweet. Great combo. Will be a nice compliment to the boysetsfire/snapcase split.

Wow. I don’t much about Envy, but Thursday is very exciting!
