Idiosyncratic Routine | Alexandra Patsavas | Founder Chop Shop Records

posted by Matt on March 21st, 2008 in Feature, IdioSYNcratic Routine, Interview, The Republic Tigers

We had a chance to catch up with Chop Shop Records founder Alexandra Patsavas. The first release on Chop Shop will be The Republic Tigers. Now that we think about it, we should have asked more questions about the band. But since she’s responsible for providing the soundtrack to TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and The O.C., she helped us make the soundtrack to our lives instead.

The Republic Tigers

SYN: Pat in our office, who has never watched Gossip Girl put this together for you (note there are some plot flaws here): Blair and Nate on the roof of a building and now Blair is talking about her drunken grandmother who is not only mean and classist, but also once had a daughter who is Blairs mom and told her to eat an entire pie on Thanksgiving even though Blair used to have an eating disorder and suddenly Blair and Nate are back together(!) and Chuck Bass overhears all of this and the news breaks Chuck Bass heart and he skips town wearing a turtleneck and now theres a shot of the Queensborough Bridge! What song is playing in the background?

A) Death Cab For Cutie The New Year
B) Band Of Horses “No One’s Gonna Love You
C) Beach House You Came to Me”
AP: B

SYN: Since you lived in Champaign, IL, please help us with the following - How is it that they closed down Mabels AND The Blind Pig but somehow Boardman’s Art Theatre is still around?
AP: The weekly meeting of the Ed Guin club keeps it going.

SYN: Name three things that made Piranha 2: The Spawning the finest flying piranha movie ever made?
AP: I actually worked on Piranha 3 in the early 90s, Piranha 2 was directed by James Cameron in 1981- probably that pre-Titanic juju.

Before you hooked up with The O.C. and Grey’s Anatomy and became one of the most renowned music supervisors around, you were making a name for yourself on shows like Roswell, Fastlane and Boston Public. 3 Follow-up Questions:

SYN: Was it a Top Secret military research balloon or alien spacecraft in Roswell?
AP: Yes

SYN: Have you ever used an HOV lane when driving alone?
AP: No

SYN: In regards to Boston Public - Who was your favorite teacher in high school?
AP: Mr Larry Hart, mentor to all the misfit toys.

SYN: One of my co-workers firmly believes Kid Nation was a cinematic piece of art, but poor musical selections during scenes that were intended to be pivotal or sensational all too often rendered them contentious or boring. What 3 songs could remedy this kind of problem in season 2?
AP: Hmmm. I haven’t seen the show yet but Radiohead can probably fix anything.
