Stars Wars Animated Series To Debut In Theaters This Summer

Many of us in the office are Star Wars nerds. Some have even gone to great lengths to own random movie memorbilia, while others have taken the obsession a bit further by naming their pets after characters in the series.
Because of these social tics it’s easy to see how we’ve been waiting a long time for George Lucas to let us know when the animated series about our beloved story was going to debut. Now that Lucas has wrapped up the latest edition of the Indiana Jones movies, we’ve been treated to some details.

The new animated series, titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be a half-hour television show. The timeline will focus on a young Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker as Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic under Chancellor Palpatine, and the Confederacy of Independent Systems under Count Dooku. Everything will take place during the three-year time period between the films Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. Most of the characters introduced in the prequels like Mace Windu and Padme Amidala will also appear in the series.
The biggest piece of news in that on August 15th, this animated series will be kicked off in the movie theaters! The movie will then serve as a tie-in for the televison show that will air on TNT and The Cartoon Network in the fall.
There’s also been lots of talk of another television series that Lucas is working on as well. This one being a live action one series but it will introduce a completely new group of characters unrelated to the Skywalker clan. However, it seems this series is still a while off until Lucas gets the animated one wrapped. Until then, we can take comfort in noticing that there’s plenty more Star Wars coming our way. Allowing for better product tie-ins like this and this, as well as giving us reason to get another pet to name.
