Baroness – The Red Album, ya heard!

  2. MURDERFACE says:

    DETHKLOK obviously, so fucking brutal.

  3. Paul T says:

its gotta be Porcupine Tree’s “Fear of a Blank Planet”…and if you wanna be specific, then its the vinyl version too, as it also has the Nil Recurring EP on it – so basically thats 2 for 1… :-)

  4. Pete says:

I would have to go with The End’s “Elementary” with Porcupine Tree’s “Fear of a Blank Planet” a close second.

  5. Wojtek says:

PT’s Feaor Of A Blank Planet and the Nil Recurring EP. I wouldn’t exactly call them metal, though the heavy element is of course very important.

  6. GK says:

Best metal release is probably The Roundhouse Tapes from Opeth. A killer live document of a great show that covers most of the bands excellent catalogue. PT’s Fear/Nil are a close second but I do not really consider them to be “metal \m/ \m/

  7. Batstone says:

Best metal album of the year is either

    Porcupine Tree – FOABP
    Opeth – Roadhouse Tapes
3 – The End is Begun
    Dream Theater – Systematic Chaos

  8. Batstone says:

    Roundhouse *** aha

  9. Gordon Hundley says:

If it qualifies as heavy metal, then its “Fear of a Blank Planet”, one of the finest albums of the year, though Wilson’s “Continuum II” seems to me to have more in common with that genre. As with “progressive rock”, there’s a moment in time that seems to best fit the genre description, with more modern sounds variously described as “progressive metal”, “post metal”, “alternative metal” and so on. But I suppose that there’s something for the traditional heavy metal fan as well as the traditional progressive rock, space rock or psychedelic rock fan in Porcupine Tree’s genre-bending sound, so we’ll just stick with that. ;-)

  10. Michelle says:

Trap Them “Seance” on Deathwish Records…..very underrated band!

  11. Laura says:

    dethklok for sure.
too bad i didn’t see this earlier.
    murderface better win this.

  12. Gene says:

I have to agree with the other who selected Porcupine Tree’s “Fear of a Blank Planet.” And I would specify the DVDA version that includes the “Nil Recurring” EP.

  13. Tgunn says:

    Pelican-”City of Echoes”

  14. Kellog says:

Porcupine Tree’s Fear of a Blank Planet is THE definitive music here. It sets the bar real high for all the rest. Nil Recurring is such an amazing companion to FoaBP which can be listened to on its own but also mixed in to FoaBP. Pure spikey gold!!!

  15. prophet 180 says:

    1-Anterior- Great Divide
    2-M-Head- Blackening
    3-Fear My Thoughts-Vulcanus
    4-The Absence-Riders
    5-EOE-The Forgotten Godess

  16. KK says:

Power of the Damager – Prong

  17. Mr. Music says:

    The Last Sucker – Ministry

  18. Franklin says:

P-Tree is the best. While it’s not metal, has anyone heard Blackfield, steven’s other band? Any good?

  19. sadchild says:

machine head – the blackening. no question. game, set, match.

  20. Mudvayne-By The People, For The People
    Seether-Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces
    Avenged Sevenfold-Avenged Sevenfold

  21. It has to be porcupines tree.
    Cheers Lucy xx
