Murder By Death Get A New Label | Remain Awesome

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

The Death have a new homeIndiana’s MURDER BY DEATH have inked a deal with Vagrant Records. The band is right in the middle of recording a new album, titled Red Of Tooth And Claw at Dark Horse Studios in Tennesee.

“We are thrilled to be working with Vagrant and we’re really excited about the new album,” says Adam Turla, the band’s frontman. Red of Tooth and Claw is about a journey filled with revenge, trials of the gods, and sirens… gorgeous, terrifying sirens. It’s our most consistent album we’ve written.”

It’s great to see Vagrant continue branching outside of the “emo” pigeonhole they’ve had for some years now. Recent additions of diverse acts like Thrice and The Hold Steady and now The Death definitely makes it clear.

The new album will see the light of day in the spring of 2008. Get some!

MP3: Carbon/Silicon | “What The Fuck”

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Carbon/SiliconMICK JONES and TONY JAMES first played together in 1975 when they were bandmates in the short-lived but historically crucial band London S.S.. Ever since then they have been blazing paths of music relevance and were “punk rock” before that phrase was even coined.

Jones would go on to become a member of the legandary band The Clash as well as Big Audio Dynamite. After lying dormant for a while he would resurface and gain acclaim as the producer of The Libertines. During this time, Tony James found himself as a member of Generation X and Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

In 2002 the lifelong friends would once again write songs together. They began to see the internet as the future the music industry. More and more songs came out of them. By the summer of 2003, the duo had had two full albums’ worth of material ready. Rather than let the music go unheard they posted the albums online as free downloads under the moniker of CARBON/SILICON. Word quickly spread as to the online-only project and in 2004 the band launched www.carbonsiliconinc.com to act as the main location for fans to get recordings of studio and live recordings.

MARK RONSON has been having a monster year. In addition to being one of the hottest producers of the moment, his album Versions has has not only spent a great deal of time in rotation around the blogosphere (and the real world). Another video from that album has been put out for us to sink our teeth in. “Oh My God” features Lily Allen handling the vocal duties and doing her best Jessica Rabbit imitation as well. For those keeping tabs at home, this is a cover of a Kaiser Chiefs song, (who also make an appearance in the vid).

Monday, October 29th, 2007

DAFT PUNK have just released live video footage of them performing songs, “Around The World,” “Television,” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” from their forthcoming live album Alive 2007. The video was completely shot by fans during their show at Keyspan Park at Coney Island this summer, 250 of them to be exact. All their footage was edited to make one coherent and pretty spiffy looking video.

The album will be released around the world (sorry, couldn’t help it) on November 20th via Virgin Records.

CBGBs To (Sorta) Re-Oopen

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

CBGBs As It Stands Looking For Retail SpaceThe space that used to play host to the legendary punk club CBGB is once again opening its doors. But it’s not in the way that we would hope or think. The space has remainded closed since the club shut its doors about a year ago. So will music ride high again in the little place on the Bowery? No! Damn!

The space will re-open as a high-end fashion boutique. You heard it right, fashion will be replacing the legendary venue. It’s been reported that designer John Varvatos is set to occupy the vacant space.

Since we’re not up on high fashion, a quick google search of who Varvatos is and it looks like he’s dressed the likes of Jack White, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Chris Cornell, and Al Pacino. So at least we’re still getting some of a rock element that way. Varvatos plans on opening his store by March 2008. Knowing people’s need for nastalgia, they probably sold the rights to the name along with the space.

Jack Black, Dio, Halford And Others To Voice Video Game

Friday, October 26th, 2007

We’ve always thought of Jack Black as a sorta comic book character. So it’s kinda fitting that he will star in a new video game called Brütal Legend. The game (due out sometime in 2008) will star metal roadie, Eddie Riggs voiced by Black, on his tour of destruction through a mystical world of rock and roll legend.

Riggs, armed with a battle axe, guitar and a V8 engine will battle ogres, demons and other assorted mytholigical creatures. His goal is to assemble an army of headbangers and attempt to save the day and get the girl. The game also has several big names donating their vocal talents to the cause. The likes if Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, and Ronnie James Dio will all lend voices to the game.

For those that can’t wait that long. Lay your eyes on the game’s trailer now!
