Anti-Flag Release A Track About Corporate Rock And It’s Suckitude

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Anti-FlagANTI-FLAG are gearing up for a new studio album in the new year. However in the meantime they are about to drop an EP on us on October 2nd. The EP is a benefit for victims of violent crime.

Earlier today we got our first taste of that EP when they posted a track called “Corporate Rock Still Sucks” over at spin.com. It’s a 1:51 minute blast of punk with all the fury and politics we expect and love from Anti-Flag. If it’s any indication of what the new material sounds like, we are in for a great set of releases from them in the next few months.

Jose Gonzalez | Grammercy, NYC [9.27.2007]

The radio dudes and one Gray Blue rolled out to the Gramercy Theater last night to catch the enigmatic JOSE GONZALEZ perform on the first night of his 2 night stint in NYC. The venue, about as close to sold out as it could get without officially selling out was full of a wide range of fans: hipsters, young professionals, and those that didn’t know why they were there, they just heard it was the place to be. The Trailer For The New Movie “Juno” Has Us Wondering If They Just Remade “Knocked Up”

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Cera And PageIf they find a system that works, why redo it? Well the folks over at FOX Searchlight are doing just that with their new movie Juno which is due out this holiday season.

Just watching the trailer the story follows what we think might just be the teenage version of Knocked Up. We’re not saying this is a bad thing. There’s a whole slew of great actors in the movie, including Michael Cera, Jason Bateman (both alumi of the criminally underated tv show Arrested Development) Jennifer Garner (Alias, Daredevil, Elektra), J.K. Simmons (Spiderman), Rainn Wilson (The Office), Allison Janney (The West Wing), and Ellen Page (X-Men: The Last Stand’s Kitty Pryde) as the title role.

The story follows one precocious high schooler Juno MacGuff, who gets “knocked up” by Paulie Bleeker (Cera), the local sweatband wearing wannabe and all the adventures of carrying the baby to term for an adoptive couple, played by Gardner and Bateman. Add the whacky dialogue and wit of her parents (Janney and Simmons) and toss in director Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking and son of movie legend Ivan Reitman) and you have yourself some good modern family fun.

Ahh Technology, Remix The Dandy Warhols Then Make Them A Ringtone

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Ring BlenderWe’ve already reported that THE DANDY WARHOLS have written the title track for the soundtrack to the Dane Cook / Jessica Alba movie Good Luck Chuck.

Now to the squeals of 14 year old around the country, the folks over at ringblender have posted a project that allows you to deconstruct the tune and then rebuild it however you want to make it a ringtone. Forcing us to ask the question if necessity is indeed the mother of invention. For 14 year olds know how to build ringtones yet are they the target demographic for The Dandy Warhols? Time will tell.

VIDEO: The Gaslight Anthem | “Ida Called You Woody, Joe”

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

So we are huge fans of THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM here in the office. In fact we’ve been listening to their album Sink Or Swim so many times we even caught cynical Graham asking for us to give him the cd to put it into his iTunes this morning. Trust us, that’s a feat.

The band just released their next video (and my favorite song on the album) “Ida Called You Woody, Joe”. The song is reportedly about the first time lead singer Brian Fallon heard The Clash. The vid is of a jersey band doing what they do best, hanging out in Asbury Park, mixed with live footage of their show from Jersey City’s Iron Monkey back in July. If you look closely in the crowd you may even catch a glimps of our very own Bill Shouldis rocking out in the crowd taking some pictures.

The band just wrapped up a tour opening for Against Me! and is hitting the road with The Draft beginning in October. See them!

Sia Starts To Ramp Up Her Next Release, Launches Player

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

SiaSIA has been knocking around the music world for the last few years with some good success. She spent some of hear earlier years as the vocalist for lounge rockers ZERO 7, but her career didn’t really see a boom until she embarked out on her own.

Her track “Breathe Me” a sparse and haunting piano ballad that was tapped to be the last song ever heard during the final montage of the amazing and critically raved about HBO series Six Feet Under. Her song played to the background of one Claire Fisher driving cross country to NYC as the final years of the main characters played out until their deaths.

Topping her previous album of beauty, Sia Furler will soon be releasing her 3rd LP onto the world titled Some People Have Real Problems this fall. An album that once again displays her powerful voice wile projecting sincerity and lyrics that swing between emotional self-awareness and youthful exuberance.
