MP3: The Killers | “Shadowplay”

Monday, April 30th, 2007

The KillersIt’s been reported for a while now that THE KILLERS were going to cover the Joy Division song, “Shadowplay” for the soundtrack to an upcoming Ian Curtis/Joy Division biopic.

We think it’s safe to say that The Killers covering a Joy Division song more than makes sense. The band got their name from a New Order video as well as sonically, they owe a bit of their sound to the groundbreaking British band.

Well we may have to still wait a bit longer for the movie but the song has made its way online. Check it out now!

MP3: Clutch | “Money” | Pink Floyd Cover

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

ClutchCLUTCH have released a cover song of the classic Pink Floyd song “Money”.

They listed the song as being from “Unreleased Covers and B-sides”. Perhaps it’s a new album they will be putting out in the near future. Perhaps it’s wishful thinking.

They made it both streamable and downloadable on their myspace page. But we went and already did that for you. So give it a listen.

The Dismemberment Plan Benefit For Cal Robbins | Black Cat, Washington DC | 4.28.2007

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

The D-Plan, Doing it for CalA few months ago it was announced that THE DISMEMBERMENT PLAN would be performing a reunion show to benefit the mounting bills of Cal Robbins. Cal is the infant son of musician / producer J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Channels) who was recently diagnosed with a Spinal Muscular Atrophy, an incurable and often fatal spinal disease. The show sold out so fast the band added another the night before on Friday.

Always down for a good road trip, we took the 3 1/2 hour drive to the band’s hometown of Washinton, DC to see the show. As we were waiting around the Black Cat getting the lay of the land we noticed many familiar faces. Ben Gibbard was on hand as well as a guy I think may or may not have been on the reality show Beauty And The Geek.

Another familiar face was that of Kim Coletta (Jawbox, DeSoto Records) whom my co-worker/friend Brian briefly talked to. She mentioned to him that there was a “more than better” chance of a Jawbox reunion show to help benefit Cal’s cause. So let’s please keep our fingers crossed for that to happen. (more…)
