In The “Now I’m Free Fallin’” Category

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Free Fallin’Checkit! The pictures are pretty badass.

Even though French photographer Denis Darzacq create his picture series “La Chute” (The Fall) during the French riots of 2005.

Darzacq captured his subjects as they were in in mid-flight, almost like they are hovering above the ground. They reality is that they were just really well timed and left the models with some sore body parts once done.

Thursday And Island Def Jam Part Ways

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

ThursdayAfter 2 albums and four years, THURSDAY has amicably parted ways with major label, Island Def Jam.

The band plans on finishing their current Canadian tour with MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE before taking some time off to record a new record and choose their new label.

They left an official post on their myspace page page earlier today letting their fans know how it happened.

Here’s the official statement from the band.

Hello Friends,

After four years and two albums, we have decided to mutually part ways with Island Records. It was a difficult decision and it took us the better part of six months to come to an agreement with the label but now that we have both of us are very happy with how things have turned out. Everyone at IDJ has treated the band with respect and we are leaving on good terms with all our friendships still intact.

We will be completing all of the touring that we have booked for the rest of the year. Then we plan to start writing for a new record. We have not decided where this new record will be released yet. Although we’ve had several wonderful offers already, we’re just enjoying our freedom for now (We’ve been on one label or another since 1999). It’s very exciting to have the opportunity to start again.

We wanted to make sure you heard all of this from us first.

Thanks for all the support over the years, Geoff, Tom, Andrew, Tucker, Steve and Tim (Thursday)

We Love Dane Cook

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

We have promoted the hell out of Dane Cook over the years. We’ve seen him grow from playing small shows at Caroline’s in NYC to selling out two shows in one night at the Fleet Center (or whatever the hell it’s called now) in Boston.

He’s been incredibly loyal to our company; keeping us involved in all he’s done and inviting us out to all of his shows. He’s gotten crap lately, basically because he’s popular and that’s what happens when you get popular. However, we love the dude and couldn’t be more proud to have been a part of his insane rise in popularity.

Today, we got a platinum plaque for his first record, “Harmful if Swallowed” and a double-platinum plaque for his recent record, “Retaliation.” Frankly, we’re proud of them and wanted to show em off. Check out some blatant self-congratulation after the jump.

University Of Nebraska To Send RIAA Bills For Their Piracy Threats

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The University of Nebraska has decided to bill the RIAA for each threatening complaint the corporation sends them related to them with the recording industry’s efforts to sue people for piracy. But if the RIAA wants Nebraska’s help, they’ll need to pay for it.

The university has estimated that each complaint - basically a warning that a computer on the UNL campus is being used to pirate music - costs about $11 to process, Weir said. So the university wants to be paid for its trouble. Wiltse’s letter to the Denver firm representing the RIAA asked the recording industry to reimburse NU for the cost of finding the offending students.

“We’re spending taxpayer dollars tracking down RIAA problems,” Weir said. “Are we an agent of the RIAA? Why aren’t they paying us for this?”

In response to NU’s request, the RIAA’s Engebretsen said, “It is neither practical nor appropriate for us to entertain a reimbursement request.”

The university has tried to work with the recording industry by attempting to find the pirates on their campus but were limited as to the extent they could help because of the way their IT system worrks, frequently changing IP addresses and only keeping a record as far back as only a month.
