And You Thought Johnny Cash Did The Ultimate NIN Cover

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

The good time rock and roll of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem couldn’t last forever. Web site sadkermit.com has unveiled their latest creation, a video of Kermit The Frog covering Nine Inch Nails’ classic “Hurt.” This probably isn’t officially sanctioned by the estate of Jim Henson, since I don’t remember Kermit shooting up on The Muppet Show back in the day. The Web site also features audio of a depressed Kermit covering Radiohead’s “Creep,” Elliot Smith’s “Twilight” and a take on the quintessential Kermit song called “The Rainbow Disconnection.” Poor little guy. It definitely isn’t easy being green.

The TLA To Be Renamed The Fillmore Philadelphia

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

TLAIt’s being reported that the Theatre of Living Arts (aka The TLA) in Philadelphia is getting an overhaul. It will now be named the Fillmore Philadelphia. This announcement comes around the same time that NYC’s Irving Plaza announced that it would be changing it’s name to The Fillmore NY.

To devotees of the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, one of contemporary music’s most respected and enduring live concert venues, these traditions will seem familiar. So while it’s no easy task to improve upon the Theatre of Living Arts (TLA), Philadelphia music fans will undoubtedly appreciate the new traditions and aesthetic that will infuse the reconfigured club, which upon Todd Rundgren’s christening concert, will be known as The Fillmore Philadelphia.

Maybe they could further step up the nostaliga and get the Allman Brothers Band to play the first show? Nope? How about Todd Rundgren? Is he free? Cool! Book him! Full press release after the jump.

Blackfield | Bowery Ballroom | 3.16.2007

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Steven Wilson of BlackfieldOn a night when sleet and hail made crossing Manhattan streets a ten-minute excursion, and hidden puddles lurked at every street corner, the Bowery Ballroom was more inviting than ever. However, it was the epic set by BLACKFIELD and the emotional atmosphere it created that made me completely forget about the weather outside.

With a stomach full of baked ziti, a beer in my hand and soggy sneakers on my feet, (more…)

Rocky Votolato With Drag The River | Maxwell’s, NJ | 3.28.2007

Rocky Votolato | Maxwell’s, NJ | 3.28.2007

Last night I decided to stay in the office late and catch up on some work. By coincidence I also happened to have a ticket to see ROCKY VOTOLATO play around the corner at Maxwell’s. Since he had a later set it just made sense to get some work done.

So about 10 I rolled into the venue and immediately thought something was weird about the place. Maxwell’s usually has a pretty chill indie rocker/punk kid kinda vibe to it. I was immediately greeted by a woman at the bar who was seconds away from a serious wardrobe malfunction laughing in a higher pitch than I usually like, having a good time with her friends. Now I’ve seen attractive women like this at Maxwell’s before but the reason this resonated with me more was she wasn’t heavily tatooed and she seemed to have a lot of clones as I made my way back toward the back room where the stage was. Free Fallin’Checkit! The pictures are pretty badass.

Even though French photographer Denis Darzacq create his picture series “La Chute” (The Fall) during the French riots of 2005.

Darzacq captured his subjects as they were in in mid-flight, almost like they are hovering above the ground. They reality is that they were just really well timed and left the models with some sore body parts once done.

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

It is not 100% confirmed yet but nationwide convience store chain 7-Eleven is planning on overhauling 11 of their stores to resemble Kwik-E-Marts found in the animated town of Springfield.

The idea is part of a promotion for The Simpsons Movie, due out this July, the plans also call for the stores to sell products that are found in the popular animated tv show such as KrustyO’s cereal, Buzz Cola, and Squishees.

The chain also will use pictures of Simpsons characters to promote 7-Eleven’s line of fresh foods, such as placing the face of Homer and his classic “Mmmm . . . sandwich” quip on sandwich wrappers.
