The Stooges

THE STOOGES are set to drop their first studio album on you in over 30 years. The band’s album The Weirdness is set to land in stores on March 6 via Virgin records and boasts the original lineup of Iggy Pop, brothers Ron and Scott Asheton. The death of original bassist Dave Alexander meant the band had to reach out for help and found it in legendary musician Mike Watt (Minutemen) to handle bass duties.

If you can’t wait the week, you can check out a new track of theirs “Free and Freaky”.

Tenacious D, The Best In Bluegrass

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Tenacious D Best In BluegrassEvery time I listen to TENACIOUS D’s music I think to myself, “How can this album be anymore awesomer?”. And then in my lack of a creative sprit, I get no further than that thought. It’s a really good thing that there are people out that that aren’t as limited as I, for the world would never have the record, Bluegrass Wrecks the Music of Tenacious D: This Is Just a Tribute. And what a sad world it would be if this album never existed.

On the album, the band Dust Bowl Cavaliers tear through the baddest of the badass tracks on The D’s album adding their bluegrass tones along the way. Check out snippets of the songs yourself but don’t saw we didn’t warn you of it’s awesomeness.

Read Yellow Break Up

Read Yellow

According to a post on their blog Amherst, MA band READ YELLOW are calling it quits after 6 years.

When Read Yellow started six years ago in a basement dorm at Umass Amherst, the four of us had no idea where our music would take us. We played music with hopes to make our friends want to have a good time and forget the daily stresses of modern life. We wanted to create music that spoke to and for the underdog, and made him or her want to come out to our shows and dance and be free with total strangers…without reservation. Our music took us out of the basements of Umass and sent us across the globe, allowed us the chance to perform with our musical heroes, and most importantly, gave four best friends the best six years of their lives.

We have done more than we had ever expected to do in a band, now it is time to leave the party. We have played shows for 2 kids and shows for 10,000 kids…and each show was special. We have made the greatest friends through this band and for the first time in my life, I really felt part of something big. I want to thank all of our friends who have supported us, taken us on tour, slept in our van, fixed our van, put up posters and flyers for us, put us on shows, gave us a place to stay, listened to our records, and came out and partied with us…Read Yellow could have never existed without you. Thank you for believing in us.

Read Yellow will always be your band.

We Love You All So Much!

The band has 3 final shows planned and then they will walk off into the night guitars in hand.

Gaurdian Article On Bands | Artists As Brands

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Check out this article from The Guardian that a friend just sent me. Seems you can find an article a day that focuses on the drastically changing landscape of the music industry and today is no different. Enjoy.

New roles are emerging for those closest to artists in a fragmented media world.

The upheaval wrought on the music industry in recent years, of which EMI’s latest travails are just the latest manifestation, have inspired a change in bedtime reading among senior executives. Their book of choice is now less likely to be a classic tale of rock industry excess such as Hammer of the Gods, but The Long Tail, a book about how the internet has brought about the death of shared culture.

“Dem’s The Biggest Mices I’ve Ever Seen!”

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Okay so by now we’ve heard the story all about the rat infestation that hit the KFC/Taco Bell in NYC. That’s not news. The best story right now is that the raw footage made it’s way online. And we think the commentary from the locals is waaaaaay better than the images of the rats running around or the news reporting on it.

Watch the footage now, then share it with your friends.

Rage Against The Machine To Perform More Shows, Wu-Tang Clan Thinks It’s A Good Idea

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Rage Against The MachineAfter it was announced that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE would be reuniting for a “one and done” time at this year’s Coachella festival we waited in anticipation in the hopes they would perform more shows. And to our luck, it was just announced that the band will be performing 3 additional shows in addition to the Coachella festival. The quick sellout and the harsh-priced ticket scalping of Coachella were among factors in the band’s decision to add the new shows.

They will join the Wu-Tang Clan for the three shows of the Rock the Bells festival.

July 28th: Randall’s Island - New York, NY
August 11th: NOS Center - San Bernardino, CA
August 18th: TBD - San Fransisco,CA

The site of the San Francisco show is expected to be made soon. The complete lineup will be announced on March 26th and tickets for the event go on sale March 31s.
