Synner Alumni: Lauren Bozarth (Universal Motown)

posted by Brian on February 2nd, 2007 in Synner Spotlight

Some of you faithful readers of Synner Nation may remember our homegirl, Lauren Bozarth, who worked with us in the office. She presently works at Universal Motown, but before that…she was a Synner! Check it…

Lo-BozNAME: Lauren Bozarth (aka LoBoz)
AGE: 23 (soon to be 24)
OCCUPATION / COMPANY: Marketing / Universal Motown
FORMER SYNNER MARKET AREA(S): NJ / NYC area
YEAR(S) YOU WERE A SYNNER: um just about 1 yr (I think) then hired full time in office.

NITTY-GRITTY

Where do you work and what are you doing now?
I work for Universal Motown in the Pop / Rock marketing department as the cordinator.

What other music industry experience do you have?
Well, I worked for the Street Syndicate prior to coming to Universal. I interned there first and then started working part time through my last year of college. Then the fine folks hired me to be a part of the fam.

How did you find out about becoming a Synner?
I found out about being a Synner when I came in to intern. Then I started to take on campaigns and such during my internship / part time experience. Worth it!

What was your favorite Street Syndicate Campaign you were a part of, and why?
Wow this is a tough one considering the vast amount of things I had the pleasure of being part of, but I think it has to be the Fat Boy Slim campaign. We had so many cool tools to work with and it was my real first time at being a Synner and proving myself as part of the team. I think all the tools made the entire campaign worth while (ie clings, luggage tags, HUGE posters, cds, etc). But, while I worked in office I’d have to say the Gorillaz Grammy campaign (even though I wasn’t out there doing it) was pretty incredible. Just being able to pull something like that off was a great feeling! I had goose bumps when looking at the photos and I still talk about the arches of balloons! And I’ll never forget the effort put into pushing emusic!

What were the most important things you learned as a Synner? Do these things apply to what you’re doing now?
NETWORKING and the importance of word of mouth! I met so many people when I was a Synner, especially through my first CMJ experience. But you also see how all of the elements come together to push an album, including the grassroots team. I think all of what I learned applies to what I’m doing now. I learned so much within my first few months of being a Synner about marketing as a whole that it inspired me to want to continue down the marketing path. It definitely assisted in getting me to where I am today and hopefully where I’ll be in the future. (awwwwwwwwww)

Why would you recommend students to get involved with The Street Syndicate?
I think it’s a great experience being part of the build up of an album. I think it makes you look at marketing from a different stand point as opposed to the cut and dry elements.

SOME PERSONAL FAVORITES:
Venue for a show: Tie between Mercury Lounge and the Troc (Philly represent right Brian?)
Show you’ve seen recently (or ever): Gogol Bordello is always a pleasure. You cannot have a bad time seeing them live! I also really enjoyed seeing The Gorillaz.
Music store: Tunes in South Jersey…yep spent many of days here buying records (new and used).
Current website: www.muffinfilms.com (never gets old to me)

DIGGIN’ DEEP
You’re no doubt into a lot of different types of music, but what are 2 different sounds you’re most attracted to right now and why?
Well we all know I’m into Indie Rock but I think Indie Rock is pretty diverse. I like the noise rock aspect of as well as the indie folk aspect as well. Does that answer it?

If you took a road trip cross-country with only 3 CDs, which would they be and why?
Modest Mouse This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About, Led Zeppelin II & Saves the Day Through Being Cool.

You have the ability to blend 2 or 3 movies together to currently describe your life. What movies and why?
Oh wow I couldn’t even begin here…so sadly enough I’m not going to answer….sorrrrry
