Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB have announced details of their 4th studio album Baby 81. It’s the band’s second album on RCA records. According to a press release from the band, the album will hit stores on May 1. Following the album’s release there will be an extensive tour to support the album. Baby 81 is the followup to 2005’s Howl which was a departure for the band sonically representing their folk/blues roots. The tracklisting for Baby 81 is as follows.

1. Took Out a Loan
2. Berlin
3. Weapon of Choice
4. Window
5. Cold Wind

This Just In…Stupidity Alive And Well

MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE are the topic of scrutiny with some iTunes subscribers. After the band classified their music as “Religious/Inspirational” with the popular download service, many people in the conserviative Christian community registered complaints after downloading the songs without previewing them and ignoring that the songs were clearly marked explicit.

iTunes considers this genre tag as “Christian/Gospel” so when people looking for a bit of faith music went and downloaded the music they got a shock. In fact, so many people ignored the explicit warnings and downloaded the album that their most recent album You’ll Rebel To Anything, actually peaked at #27 on the iTunes Christian/Gospel charts.

MSI frontman Jimmy Urine issued a statement saying: “It was iTunes, not us, that interpreted ‘religious’ to mean Christian. What is offensive to some people is obviously inspirational to others. To our fans this is inspirational music. I have no intention of changing the genre listing of this album.”

Idiosyncratic Routine: The Emergency

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

The EmergencyIn this episode of Idiosyncratic Routine we got our chance to ask some questions of West Virginia’s own THE EMERGENCY. The band’s lead singer/guitarist (and all around swell guy) Rob Wherle subjected himself to our own brand of interviewing skills answering questions ranging from everything to his band’s new album Doo-Lang Doo-Lang to his appearance on 70’s television shows.

Call it what you want, but we have a good time asking the questions. We just hope he has just as good a time answering them. (more…)

Village Unearthed Near Stonehenge

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Nothing to do with music or entertainment but this is just cool. I snagged it from CNN:
Stonehenge

WASHINGTON (AP) — Archaeologists have uncovered what may have been a village for workers or festival-goers near the mysterious stone circle Stonehenge in England.

The village was located at Durrington Walls, about two miles from Stonehenge, and is also the location of a wooden version of the stone circle.

Eight houses have been excavated and the researchers believe there were at least 25 of them, archaeologist Mike Parker Pearson said Tuesday at a briefing held by the National Geographic Society. (Watch scientist describe big parties for Stonehenge builders Video)

The village was carbon dated to about 2600 B.C., about the same time Stonehenge was built. The Great Pyramid in Egypt was built at about the same time, said Parker Pearson of Sheffield University.
