PRESS RELEASE: Kings of Leon Announce New Album
posted by Matt on January 30th, 2007 in Kings Of Leon, Music, Press ReleaseRCA Records is proud to announce the release of Kings of Leon’s new record. Entitled “Because Of The Times,” it will be released on April 3, 2007. Turning once again to producers Ethan Johns and Angelo Petraglia, “Because Of The Times” is the Tennessee-based band’s first record since 2004’s widely acclaimed “Aha Shake Heartbreak,” which firmly established the Followills – Caleb, Jared, Matthew and Nathan — as international stars. The first single from “Because Of The Times,” will be “On Call,” and will be sent to radio February 12. The song will be available on itunes beginning February 6.
Coming off an immense amount of touring over the last two years both as headliners, world-wide festival staples and openers for the likes of U2, Bob Dylan and Pearl Jam, the ambitious and eclectic “Because Of The Times” (the title refers to an annual preachers’ conference the boys attended growing up) is Kings of Leon’s most diverse collection yet and represents a major evolution for the band. Brimming with ideas, it represents a huge leap forward both in songwriting and musical prowess. “We took the limitations off of ourselves,” says frontman/rhythm guitarist Caleb. “We went into the studio with an open mind, thinking let’s do whatever it takes to get these songs to the next level. Because we really have a lot of music inside of us and a lot of different places we can go.”
Adds drummer/singer Nathan: “We weren’t scared to try anything. I think that’s the difference between this album and the last. We weren’t timid at all. Every song showed us something we had inside of ourselves that we didn’t know existed, which enabled us to be even bolder on the next song.”
Since the entrée into the rock world in 2003 by these “Rolling Stone” magazine-dubbed “Tennessee Terrors,” with the “Holly Roller Novocaine” ep and the debut record, “Youth and Young Manhood,” Kings of Leon have received a stunning amount of accolades from the media around the globe. From covers on the “NME,” to 16-page feature coverage in “Rolling Stone,” to playing every major late-night television show in America and elsewhere several times, to features in most of the world’s major magazines (from lifestyle to music to celebrity) and newspapers, the band’s fabled story and mysterious, authentic and infectious brand of rock remains fascinating to the music cognoscenti. The “NY Times” said “the band occupies real estate somewhere between William Faulkner and the Allman Brothers, and its members have a Waltons-gone-bad back story that plays well with urbanites who find the rest of the country somewhat mysterious.“ “Vanity Fair” said the band is “one of the most entertaining, talented new bands making music today.” The “LA Times” called their sound “mysterious southern fragility,” while “USA Today” called it “rural authenticity and creative abandon.” “Interview,” called Caleb’s voice “a mighty howl,” while “Magnet” said, “Like altar boys run amok in the devil’s music store, the Kings don’t play their instruments so much as will them into submission.”
Kings of Leon will be on tour immediately after the release of “Because Of The Times,” including a spotlighted slot at Coachella as well as soon-to-be-announced other festivals.
